This is a casual and accessible conversation geared towards teenagers. This movie portrays a main character, the daughter in the family who is deaf, which has led to the entire family’s ability to communicate silently through ASL. This is the first children’s story that I’ve seen where the main character has a disability. I think this will be a wonderful conversation around empathy with younger students. Although I have not watched all episodes yet, from what I have seen the casting of the show represents a wide range of individuals with ASD which I feel will help dismantle stereotypes, or any preconceived notion held by the viewer.
