The distribution shows a greater population of people above the age of 40 versus the ages of infancy through 35. This can be from its high tourism being the 4th most visited country. It seemed to get worse after the Covid-19 impact which also gave rise to other issues related to poverty and inequality. As well, Italy’s aging population and lower birth rates show long-term economic challenges.

Age Distribution: The Median age of the population is 38.9 years old. There are more people over 65 than there are under 18. The % of under 18 year olds is decreasing while the % of 65+ year olds is steadily increasing. The US population is also growing rapidly. (1)

Italy’s Economic State: The US is a very high income country based on its GDP and GNI (gross national income) per person. The US only has an unemployment rate of 4.2% (2025) which is relatively low compared to Italy. (2)

Social Issues: Trump's tariffs and policies can have lasting effects on the healthcare delivery systems that hundreds of millions of Americans use to get access to healthcare. Early into his presidency he has already announced he plans to cut subsidies from the government that people use to get discounts on private marketplace plans. He is planning to cut funding from $97.7 million to as low as $10 million dollars going forward in 2025.

Sure Italy has absolute universal health care which is a big benefit compared to other countries like the United States but there are limitations. Like lack of staff or workers, and this is due to the lack of investments. Not a lot of people are interested in the health care system in Italy which comes at the downside of not a lot of funding nor enough money to properly pay workers. Not to mention, Italy is a Bureaucracy, and it takes a long time for any decision to be made. (20)
