There's always a small element of risk when going to a stranger's house or inviting someone into your home. Meeting prospective flatmates in a public place eliminates that risk.
Easier
Bypass that awkward flatmate interview by meeting on neutral ground, in the relaxing confines of a bar. You're much more likely to get a natural impression of someone in that environment.
