This was an important battle for the United States Marine Corps because it highlighted their tenacity and courage, resulting in their nickname, "The Devil Dogs."</p>]]></description>

The U.S. and French forces successfully reduced the German salient in the St. Mihiel region, capturing 13,000 prisoners and important railroad lines. This victory demonstrated the AEF's capability as an independent fighting force and allowed for the transition to the larger Meuse-Argonne Offensive, the war's final major Allied campaign.</p>]]></description>

Their main goal was to take control of the railroad hub at Sedan.The American troops overwhelmed the Germans and it led to an armistice being put into effect which ultimately led to Germany surrendering. </p>]]></description>
