Bang: A sudden loud voice

Flash: To shine brightly and suddenly

Rattle: to keep making a noise by knocking against something

Rumble: to make a deep, long sound.

Twinkle: If light twinkles, it shines and seems to be quickly flashing on and off.

Wail: to cry loudly because you are very sad

2. Livingstone and Stanley were described as individualistic and aggressive explorers because they were looking for something that they didn’t know about, the source of the Nile.

5. Sir Richard Burton was described as charismatic since he travelled disguised as a native Arab in Mecca.

6. It was not possible for Speke to prove that Lake Victoria was the source of the Nile because he did not have the expedition´s survey equipment. In addition, he could not prove the height and extent of the Lake. 

7. There was a bad feeling between Speke and Burton because Speke broke a promise that he had made to Burton. The promise was that both of them (at the same time) were going to announce that they found the Source of the Nile.  

Later on, Speke looked for Lake Victoria again, and sent a telegram to London which said: “The Nile is settled”, Burton did not believe in this.

After this, a debate on this topic was arranged by the British Association in Bath, this was arranged for September 18, 1864. On the other hand, that morning Speke died while he was hunting at Neston Park, Wiltshire. Some people thought it was an accident, another people like Burton thought that he committed suicide.
