Common FAQs

Q1 In Lesson Editor, I don’t seem to be able to move components, move/delete activities etc.

Lesson Editor has 2 modes. Ensure that you are in the Edit mode by clicking on the Edit icon on the right of the header bar. You can do component level edits by clicking on the edit icon on the top right of every component. You can do activity level edits by clicking on the left activity list, which opens by pressing the left icon on the header bar. If you are on Edit mode, you should see an overflow (3 dots) next to each activity in the list.

Q2 In Lesson Editor, the component settings cards in the right drawer are confusing.

We have put all information that students cannot see into the component settings to the right. Here you will find information such as ALP stages, teachers’ notes etc. Students will not see these settings cards – instead they will see their notes and annotations in the drawer. You can use the settings cards as a quick way to navigate through all the components in the activity. From R15, you will be able to close the right drawer to increase your working space on your lesson.

Q3 How do students submit an audio response question?

Students can click on the text box, which will bring up a recording icon (microphone). The text box is disabled in the Lesson Editor and the teacher’s assignment view. Students can also separately write text in the textbox, or use the attachment icon to activate their in-device (rather than in-SLS) recording app or submit a video recording instead. More details can be found in the User Guide (search for “audio”)

Q4 The Youtube videos in my lessons are not accessible.

This can be due to a variety of reasons. First check that the video has not been taken down by Youtube by trying to access the video link outside SLS. Second if the device is a student PLD with a Device Management Application (DMA) it could be blocked by the DMA. You will know this is the case if the student can access the Youtube video on his/her own phone. Ask your DMA vendor to whitelist the video. Third, if the Youtube video is only not accessible with the school network, then it is likely that the video is not whitelisted on SSN. You might approach your network administrator for help.

Q5 I can’t download student marks and responses in Heatmap. When I click on the incoming notification that the download is ready (this can be up to 10 to 15 min later), nothing happens.

Q6 When I click to download a zipped resource, nothing happens.

Q7 When I click to access iMTL or other apps from the class group page, nothing happens.

For Q5 to Q7, you will need to ensure that your browser settings for the SLS site is set to “enable pop-ups” by going to Settings->Privacy and Security->Site Settings. This is a known issue for Chrome and Safari browsers.

Q8 I cannot find the download button for a Media Object in a MOE Library or CG lesson.

This means that the MO has been set to be “Not Downloadable” by the owner. If you believe this has been set wrongly for MOE Library resources, please log a ticket. If you would still like to use the MO in your SLS lesson, you may search for the MO by +Adding from Library in the Lesson Editor.

Q9 How do I delete an assignment?

You may delete an assignment by clicking on the right menu (overflow or 3 dots on the header bar) in Assignment view. However, assignments where at least 1 student has accessed cannot be deleted.

Q10 How do I exit an assignment?

Click on the right menu (overflow or 3 dots on the header bar). At the bottom of the menu there is a button to Exit Assignment.

Q11 I used to see shelves in MOE Library displaying lessons by Subject, Level and Course and Topics. How can I see the same in the new UI?

In MOE Library, click the filter icon next to the search field. Find the “Search By Topic” tab. You can choose the subject, level and course and search by sub-topics and Learning Outcomes.

Q12 I don’t seem to be able to find any results when searching.

Ensure that there is something keyed in the search field. If you do not wish to define a search parameter, please key in the wildcard *. (This follows Google search behaviour, but we will be changing this in the future because it is not intuitive to most users.)

Q13 I cannot find results when keying “sec 1” etc in the search field.

Because there are various ways by which levels can be referenced (e.g. S1, sec 1, secondary 1 etc), it is better to use the filter to search for subject, level and course. Click on the icon next to the search field. Keying in “Secondary 1” (with the dialogue marks to ensure exact search) works as well.

Q14 I see other subjects and levels even when I apply a filter during search.

Lesson cards are labelled based on the primary subject and level tagged by the owner. However some subjects are tagged to multiple subjects and levels and will appear if they meet the filter requirements in the search.

Q15 How do I control student access to activities in assignments?

Before you assign out the lesson, you may click on the edit icon in the assignment card (pencil icon on the top right of the card) and click on the Access Settings tab. After assignment, you can click the left menu to open the activity list and toggle activity access there.

Q16 There seems to be a problem with a walkthrough provided in “Need Help”.

Please log a ticket. The walkthroughs are programmed on a separate application sitting on top of SLS itself and might not always work if it encounters unexpected behaviour. We will reprogram the walkthroughs to improve them.

Q17 How do I log a ticket in the new UI?

Email helpdesk@sls.ufinity.com. Alternatively, you can click on “Help us improve”, click on any number to rate your experience, and then key in the issue in the form that follows. This widget is sometimes minimized as a “?” and is not visible on handphones and tablets.
