Hitler wrote his manifesto Mein Kampf in 1924. In the book Hitler laid out his future plans for Germany. As Hitler gained political prominence he presented all of Germany's problems as a racial issue. He then started laying the groundworks for extreme nationalism within his political party, the Nazi party, and in 1933 they won a majority of seats in the German Reichstag. This allowed Hitler to seize control of the country and spread his extreme ideas.

The nazi racial ideology idolized Aryans, or the Nordic peoples of Germany, England, the Netherlands and Scandinavia. Most other races, specifically Jews or Romanis, were heavily discriminated against and seen as sub-human. In 1935, the Nuremberg Laws were decreed, which were a series of highly racist and anti-semitic laws, forbidding marriage between Jews and non-Jews, among other things. The bigotry and malice Jews endured increase throughought the 1930's, leading up to the boycotting of many Jewish-owned businesses and eventually the Kristallnacht, or "Night of Broken Glass." On November 9th and 10th, a huge amount of Jewish-owned business were vandalized or ransacked all throughout Germany and Austria.

As the Germans took over Poland and got rid of the Polish leadership they began to begin the process of organizing people that were undesirable or not pure. They started to deport all of the Jewish people to ghettos located in different places in Poland. The ghettos were dirty and overcrowded, when the ghettos got too overfilled German soldiers would take 25,000 Jews or more to a ditch and would murder all of them to "make space". When the German's developed mass death by gas chambers they began to deport mass amounts of Jewish people to the death and labor camps.

On January 20, 1942 many senior German officials held a meeting in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee to outline and implement the "Final Solution". The meeting resulted in a decision where almost all Jews in German-occupied would be deported to German-occupied Poland and be murdered. Many of the people deported would end up in concentration camps such as Auschwitz. The people in these concentration camps would be beat, tortured, and executed for the smallest misdemeanors. One of the most famous ways that prisoners were murdered is by gassing. Of the 1.3 million people who were sent to Auschwitz, only 200,000 survived. Soviet troops entered the camp on January 27, 1945 and that day is now known as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

In the years to follow, his mother allowed him to drop out of school and later, when she died in 1907, he moved to Vienna and worked various labor jobs, as well as a brief stint as a painter.
