Discrit. Discuss the Discrit framework. Summarize the key ideas and possible implications for your thinking and future work.

Dis Crit - The intersection critical race theory and disability studies.

Key Tenets

1 - Whiteness and ability are seen as normal. Discrit rejects this notion.
2 - Intersectionality. Multiplicity. Dis-crit does not isolate race or dis/ability as several studies do.
3 - Dis/ability is a social contruct with psychological and societal consequences.
4 - Focuses on the voices of those impacted.

Discrit shakes things up. Calls attention to norms and the harm that it can cause. It shines a spotlight on how opinion based what society is. How everything is so connected, how does race affect those with dis/abilities. It is more complex than being a person of color or someone with a dis/ability.

2. Discrit 55-67. Discuss the ways intersectionality is used to examine the concept of "goodness" and its relationship to power.

- Goodness = access to resources and opportunities, gatekeeping
- If families are outside the demographic that American public schools were designed to support (middle class, White, native English speaking, able-bodied), goodness isn't even enough
- These labels are highly subjective of goodness and badness and schools believe they have the power to label students
- Referenced the media coverage of the Ferguson events and the police chief describing the White police officer as quiet, gentle as footage was being released of Mike Brown allegedly steam, this is an example of this type of goodness labeling that begins in schools and before Kindergarten often times
- The highly subjective labels of EDB in particular but also AHDH, ASD often determine the child's treatment in public schools and the trajectory of their goodness
