A coffee bean is actually a seed. If it is unprocessed it can be grown into a coffee tree. Newly grown coffee trees take 3 to 4 years to produce fruit. The fruit is called a coffee cherry, it turns dark red when it’s ready to be harvested. Next, there are two methods. In the dry method, all the cherries are laid out in the sun to dry. In the wet method, the pulp is stripped from the beans and they are put into fermentation tanks. The beans are then dried. Next, they are separated by size, weight, and color. The beans are then loaded onto ships and exported.
