They started out getting in an accident in the water but not just any water. The water was so cold that the father got hypothermia lucky for him it was only in the first stages and before it got any further they found a way to heat him up. After this close to death experience they start walking to find shelter. They walked through extremely rough terrain surrounded by wolves, bears you name it. Through all this the father and the son are trying to stay alive because they have family they need to get back home. Later on the son decides its smart to split up. After splitting up Blake the son finds himself near a body of water and he is trying to start a signal fire for local authorities. This left his father alone and without any protection due to the fact that his fire has died and with the never ending changes of the environment its hard to find a perfect enough shelter. Due to old age the father cant even do minimal tasks to keep him alive. The extreme environments that took place during this episode was starting with the father and son being stuck under an ice river after they had crashed into it with the intense water flow. They were unable to breathe through out the whole ice river but managed to get out. With the dad having hyperthermia, the son who was a doctor did his best to take care of him. They got stranded and looked for shelter, they made a fire and a shelter to keep both of them warm. The son decided to adventure off on his own to find the nearest person and ask them for help while the dad held down there shelter. While the son went to find help, the fathers fire got stronger and burnt up the shelter, after that he had to go and find new shelter and more food and water. The son had wandered off and almost died from starvation until a plane found him and gave him a radio to talk to them. The son wanted them to find the father first and they did. The father and son firstly began hiking in the woods as it is a family thing. They then decide to go rafting in the lake to get a quick refresher, all goes swell until the waves get heavier and there are strong currents. Eventually they end up crashing and end up drowning and trying to survive with many clear injuries, all of their belongings were lost, the father was suffering from hypothermia and they are now trying their best to get warm. Now what inspired the father and son with the will to survive is them both hoping they would eventually get help and return home to their families. They try to first find shelter but then the son decides to go get help to try and get home. 
  The father then tries to keep the fire going while his son goes to get help, the fire eventually got stronger and burned down the shelter they were currently staying in. So the father attempts to find other possible ways to survive. Meanwhile the son goes through many challenges like walking 50 miles in the woods, even eating a spider to try and stay alive. The son then comes across a river but cannot cross it, so he sits there until a plane arrives. They offer the son assistance and they go to find his dad, only to find him not at the shelter and on the floor several hours later. The father and son are then reunited and finally get home. They both go back to their normal lives, even hiking, but never again would go rafting.
