Picture Book Soak by Abby Raig

First impressions of a series of picture books from McGirt-Horton Library. I picked up any book that caught my interest and I did not read any that I have previously read. Project for LIS 617

This book has lots of bright colors and patterns. It could be a starting point for teaching about Indian culture to children. It would read-aloud well as long as the reader has correct pronunciations.
(This was my favorite book of the soak.)

This has a very interesting art style. It could be read aloud, however there are a couple pages that would require seeing the pages to complete the story. This could help lead into a craft time with yarn, talking about sharing, or discussing what activities make children happy.

This would be good for children who like dinosaurs. There is a lot of read-aloud potential due to the amount of voices and rhyme scheme. It has a very exciting, action filled story that would likely keep children engaged.

Good depiction of southern African American culture. In some ways this book may benefit from being read aloud, since the dialogue is written with a specific cadence. It could easily be used to discuss cooking and different types of food. There is also a mac and cheese recipe at the end of the book!
( I really enjoyed this one.)

This would be a simple introduction for children to find out what a library is. The words are lyrics from a song by the same title, which would likely be beneficial to listen to prior to reading the book in a story time. It could be used to prompt continued reading with all the characters mentioned.

I thought this was a sweet book. There is not much of a narrative, but it is good for celebrating diversity and appearance. Some of the color descriptions do not really match up in my opinion, but that could be up for interpretation.

Of all the books read, this has the oldest demographic. It is a nice, straightforward, fairytale story. I think that the "red-riding hood story" claim is misleading, I did not find it to be particularly similar but others could disagree. This book could tie in to learning about China or about fairytales as a genre.
