i thought that at first it was easy, but as we go on it gets harder than i thought with their comebacks. i faced a question where i couldnt answer and needed assistance. some of us couldnt talk well and always stop talking or always disturbs us as our weakness, but we have good comebacks as our strengths.i was well equiped for the debate, but i didnt speak much because its either another person already said what i wanted to say or i didnt get picked to ask the question that could probably help us win.

I'm Clara and I think the debate was mostly focused on alternatives like what if there were people on the train or what if the one person was the CEO etc. The challenges I experienced was when I was speaking and I couldn't stop stuttering because I was nervous. My team had strengths like we made a good presentation but our weaknesses were we didn't have a good comeback for the other team's rebuttals. The other team had a great presentation since they were professional and formal when they were doing the presentation, though the points didn't make much sense to me. My view on the Trolley Problem was letting the 5 people die, this debate changed my perspective and now I would flip the lever to save the five people. I still think I'm not a great debater, I make good points that make sense but I'm afraid to speak in front of many people.

[Yannie Ng]

I believe that the debate progressed surprisingly well manner, with both sides expressing their opinions politely. In all honesty, the only significant challenge that stood in the way were the quick required for rebutting the opposing team's ideas, it's quite hard to think of a comeback to something you didn't think of. Our team stuttered over their quite a bit, with some not being able to form words, or just lacking a rebuttal in general, however I believe that through the co-operation and negoatiation with the other teammates, we ended with a decent arguement. The other team were confident in their words and had strong rebuttals prepared, weakening our arguement, which I appreciate. I cannot quite seem to grasp any major weaknesses. Personally, I believe that murdering one civilian over five is morally correct, as five lives are more valuable than one. I feel as if my debating skills have not changed much.

i think that the debate was interesting, because i get to hear people's thoughts and opinions. they weren't really any challenges on what i experienced. I think my team had great points and it was very convincing. the other team's points were pretty strong but some of them were repeating. I don't really have much opinion in the problem. i feel like a lot of us have good points in this problem and no one is really wrong from their own opinions. But i also felt pretty excited to hear how people deal with these situations.

I think this debate was fun and challenging at the same time because of the questions that the opposition asks, my honest opinion on my team is i think we did great but next time we should prepare more for our presentation. On the other hand the opposing team i think did great on the presentation but they used too much of what if in their questions which made it i guess easier to counter. My thoughts on the trolley problem is that killing one person is more worth it because you would not feel guilty as you have actually did something right and saved people.

Hello, my name is Elizabeth and in the debate I was on the negative side. Talking about personal opinions, I am still on the negative side. My thoughts and reflections after this debate is how surprising me and my team members were able to reply to their points. I think I really understood how deep I could actually use my thoughts in after this debate. Although I think me and my team members did well, we still faced challenged which were questions we didn't know how to answer or answers that we really couldn't argue with. I think our major strengths were arguing with other peoples facts and thoughts. One weakness we had though was that i felt like not enough people on our team were talking and it only revolved around the same speakers. I think that our points would have been much more deeper and well thought out if more people spoke. On the other team, i think their facts were quite strong and they were able to end are arguments well. One weakness they had though was how they weren't prepared enough. I felt like it was easier to argue with them since of how unprepared they were. My original personal view before this debate was that i believed that killing 1 and saving 5 was much more reasonable than killing 5. However, after this debate, I realised how many more thoughts and points we had compared to them and how reasonable the points were. After all this, I feel satisfied on how well we did and how well thought out some of my/our points were.

"The Trolley Problem" strikes me as a good way to express our opinions and help us to develop skills that we need in the future. During the debate, I noticed various things, but the one thing that stood out to me was how well we presented our opinions. At first, I was on the positive side, but now that I consider both, I realize that it is a purely subjective matter - no right, no wrong. A few challenges I experienced was making up answers on the spot and appearing confident when I was clearly nervous. I needed to portray my voice clearly, loudly, and confidently. A few major strengths of my team was the ability to think fast. We came up with strong reasonings for many rebuttals from the opposing team. A weakness was confidence. We all were extremely nervous and some of us (including me), had a shaky and nervous voice. A major strength of the other team was their teamwork. It really made me think about how much help teamwork can be. The other team had carefully thought out what they were going to say, and appeared confident with attire and such. A weakness they had was thinking on the spot. If our questions had been scripted, I gaurantee that their rebuttals would have been much stronger and less nervous. After this hectic debate, I feel like sometimes choosing sides is the easiest. The hardest part is finding reasons to argue against and to support our opinion.

I thought that this debate was an interesting experience. However there were some things that my team said that I thought didn't make sense or did not agree with and this was challenging. Overall, I think that my team did a decent job. In addition a major weakness our team has is that our statements slowly start to make less and less sense as the rebuttals go on. Furthermore I think that the opposing team did pretty well and didn't have many major weaknesses. In conclusion, even after this debate I still think that not doing anything is better than pulling the lever to save 5 people. And finally, I feel more confident in my opinion.

Hayley

What I thought about during the debate was how I could phrase my rebuttals and arguments in a way that could sound logical to the other side's speaker, it was definitely a challenge that I faced since there're really strong opponents on the other side and I knew it would be hard to make their arguments sound weak compared to ours. My team definitely had the upper hand since it was logical that saving 5 people is better than saving 1 since its a larger group of people. I think the other team definitely had the struggle to figure out strong arguments but I can say they really did a good job on finding them. Although the other side had strong arguments, I still stand by my opinion of the trolley problem. After this debate we had, I think now we can have a clearer view of others perspective and opinions.

Our topic was to kill 5 instead of 1 and our questions were long thoughtful. The challenges we experienced are when we tried to find a way to ask questions and fend for our team. Our strengths were making reasonable answers for people who were asking and are weaknesses is that our questions were too long. The other team also did their best which shows determination and hard work for their team. Their weaknesses were their answers, they were confusing and hard to answer. My view on this trolly problem is that it has many different interesting, possible answers. This debate influenced me to express more and try to think deeper into questions. I felt more confident and would like to do more of these debates in the future with different topics.

I've learnt a lot from this debate, I got to hear both sides of the argument which helped me understand their opinions on this topic. While preparing, most of us agreed that hitting one person would be more reasonable, however after deep discussions and research, we finally realised that there isn't a right or wrong answer and just played along. Our team had our strengths and weaknesses, one of our weaknesses is some of our teammates weren't cooperating as much as others, and our strength was mst of our teammates work the hardest. As I mentioned before, in the beginning I agreed that hitting the one person would be more reasonable, however after talks and discussions with my teammates I changed my view of this.

My name is Dastan and I participated in the debate of the trolley problem. I was in the side that opposed the thought of killing one person to save five people. I think that we learnt more about each other's thoughts, and we learnt how our mindsets change through different opinions. There were challenges I experienced when I had to think of rebuttals to oppose the other side's thoughts. Our team had a major weakness, our speech. I believe that our speech was too easy to oppose, it was like we rushed a speech. We were stuttering and it feels like we didn't think through if there were mistakes or disadvantages in the speech. On the other hand, we also had a major strength. I believe we did well to think of rebuttals and oppose the other side's thoughts. It felt like they were struggling to oppose our rebuttals. I think their team were neutral and didn't have strengths or weaknesses. I believe that they could do better, but did good. I believe that I would kill the five people to save one. This debate influenced my choice as I feel like my teammates had a better opinion on the idea as their team did. It felt like our opinions were more reasonable. I feel like it is harder to find evidence in this side. This is because it is common sense to believe that five people will have more potential and will be a more reasonable to save 5 people instead of 1.

The debate was an interesting way for us to dive deeper into the Trolley problem. When the other team rebutted, I couldn't think of answers to them quickly enough. I thought I had prepared enough, but when our team had finished presenting our perspective of the problem, I knew I had missed a lot of details. Our team had a strong reason to prove our point, but we couldn't find a correct theory to prove that the one person was more important than the five people. The opposing team also had good reasons for saving five people by killing one, but most of their reasons were of quantity and money. My view on the Trolley problem is saving five people than one before the debate. I was impressed when our team presented because I now have many more reasons for saving one person. Now I think that both solutions have their advantages and disadvantages but I still think that we should save five people. I feel that our side has had more information because of the numerous reasons we had for supporting out point and answers to questions that concerns our perspective.

Debate Reflection Pearl 7G negative side

My name is Pearl. My thoughts and reflection on the debate is that everyone was very insightful and also respectful. Most of us were very logical and the opposing team also pointed out points I never thought to rebutal. I think my team was presenting our debate in a structured manner with an introduction, the content, and a conclusion wrapping it up. Some challenges I faced was when the opposing team has pointed out some rebutals and statements against our team. However, I quickly remembered that I jotted down notes and I read and picked some points to go against them. I think my team was very logical and organised. Our rebutals challenged the affirmative group greatly which led to greater discussion. The affirmative team has pointed out some really convincing points, but some were nonsense such as the example of insurance for people. It is not appropriate or ethical for the other team to use it as a reasoning. My view on "The Trolley Problem" is to kill 1 person instead of 5 people. However, when I got assigned to the team of killing 5 people, I realised that there were also many good reasons for killing 5 people. However, even when I was debating, I realised that killing 5 people were kind of nonsense. In conclusion, I still think "The Trolley Problem"s solution should be sacrificing 1 person. I think my team is very well equipped as we were well-prepared for rebutals and reasonings. We spent a lot of effort discussing and researching. I feel a passion for debating after this lesson as I got to experience.

Hi, My name is Hilary and today I am going to share about the debate that I did in class about the trolley problem today. And I am on the against side. I think that this debate was very fun, but a bit chaotic. And I think this is a fun way to test out our debating skills. There were challenges throughout this process and I am going to tell you about it. A challenge that we faced was research. We had to have a sufficient amount of research to prove our statement was correct. And we struggled to find the right research. Another challenge that we faced was planning out the discussion. After we listened to the other team, we thought they had a very good foundation. And we don't know how we can prove it in a very persuasive way. I think a strength of our team was that we had a very good rebuttal. And we know how to make our statement better. And a weakness that we have is having a good planning. The other team's strength is having a good speech. And the weakness is that they have a bad rebuttal. So this is my reflection.

Vanesse Yung

During the debate, I felt very anxious and excited at the same time about how it was going to end up. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experiance and it helped boost my confidence. Some challenges I have experienced were the anxiety I felt if I had said the wrong thing during the rebuttal and if my rebuttal was good and made sense. Our team did have some major weaknesses and most of them were that we were not prepared and that our answer to the other team's rebuttals were not very evidential, but other than that, I really appreciated the team work and effort we have put in this event that we don't have quite often. The other team's points and rebuttals were excellent, they were really logical and have good evidence. In the trolley problem, I would choose to kill the one person over the five, but the debate did not support or change my opinion eitherway, this is because the team supporting my option was not that good in defending the perspective. In my opinion, this debate really helped in my skills so far.

I think that this debate gives us a chance to listen to others point of view. Through this discussion, I could see how others express their point of view by using different examples to support it. The challenges our team has was that it was hard to think of supporting evidence to support the side we chose. The strengths of our team was that It was easy at first as I think that most people would choose to save 5 people instead of letting the 5 people die. If I had to choose, I would let the train run over the 5 people as I don't want to be blamed.

Nathan Wong 7G

my thoughts on this debete is that both side have very good arguments, and very good speeches. one challenge that i faced was when Moses answered my question with a strong answer and i had no idea on how to argue about it. my team's strenghs were very exellent speekers with strong idea's and arguments but there is always a question taht we can't answer.

One the other hand the opposite team didn't had and very perswading seech, but they do have some semi-good to good answers to block our questions.

So my veiw on the unsolveable trolley problem is that there is no right or wrong answer. The lever is in your hand anyways, is you who have to make the choice on either killing one person to save five, or kill five and save one. Well this has influenced me to think more clearly before acting up on an situation or just let fate decide it for me. Why? Well because there might be a consequenses for each choice one with a worse one and one with a lighter concequense. I feel like i am nuteral in between both side, well because in my opinion it is your choice to pull the lever or let fate decide and do nothing. How about you, what do you think?

My name is Grace, and in the debate, i'm from the "opposition side". In the beginning when we were introduced with this idea, i was sure that killing 1 person instead of 5 is the better idea, but now after i got to hear the statements and opinions from both teams, i felt like letting fate decide is better because it's not your fault. There were not any challenges from me because i did not speak. I think everyone was nervous, considering people from both teams wanted to give the best opinions on this problem. I felt like the points from my side were well organised and researched, and i really enjoyed it. For my point of view, i think i would be too scared of pulling the lever, but it's technically not my fault.
