In my field experiences I see how far we have come as a society understanding the multiple needs of our kiddos with special needs. As a state we already lack in legislation that effectively supports our services for individuals with developmental delays and disabilities; with this reauthorization we are able to bridge some gaps in the education system.

Assistive technology improves the functional capabilities of children with disabilities as stated in IDEA.  Therefore, if this technology was not available, students would have been subject to inadequate and unequal educational opportunities.

Schools even with this reauthorization come up short when providing AT to students so I can imagine that if it wasn't in place schools would be much more inclined to deny that right to students. More students for take up a trade school earlier in life to learn a way to provide for themselves or go to a more expensive private school if they were fortunate enough to have been  born of a family that could afford such a school. School as we know it would not exist.
