In chapter 9 Aunt Polly was telling Tom that she had worried a lot about him, so Tom started telling her everything he had done that night and he says did you find the window open? and the aunt answers yes, then he says "it blew" the candle he said "how did you know?" He also said "you were crying." Poly thought he was a fortune teller but then got angry when he found out he was lying. In chapter 10, Tom went to school trying to talk to Becky, but she didn't pay attention to him until Becky accidentally tore a page of a book in the classroom. Later ,Becky went to the schoolhouse she noticed that the teacher had left a key on his desk. She opened the drawer and reached for a secret book that the teacher had, but Tom was in door and Becky get nervous and accidentaly ripped a page from the book, if the teacher discovered that she ripped a page of his book she gonna be whipped. Finally, when they had class again the teacher was angry about his book, he asked to each student about the book, and when it was te turn of Becky Tom said that he whipped te page of the book, Tom took his whipping and when he returned to his seat Becky gave he a note that said: " You're so noble". And that was how this chapters end!

Later, while Tom was walking home, he ran into Aunt Polly, who was very angry because he had lied to her. She had told Joe's mother about her dream, and she told him he was there. After the funeral, Tom was treated like a hero. At school, the children thought Joe and Tom were the greatest heroes in Petersburg, Missouri. Tom decided to break free from Becky because he thought being a hero was better than love. When Becky saw Tom talking to Amy, she felt a sharp pain in her heart. One day, she tried to get away from Tom, but her feet wouldn't obey. She found herself standing next to Tom. She looked at Mary and told her about having a picnic. All the boys and girls in her homeroom wanted to go to the picnic, but when lunchtime came, Tom didn't ask anything about the picnic. Becky got very upset and plotted revenge on Tom. But when she returned to school, she noticed that Mr. Dobbins's key was in the desk. When the students were in the classroom, writing or playing, he would open a drawer and read a book. Everyone would make theories about what was in the book. Becky opened the drawer and took the book, she began to read it until she saw a silhouette in the doorway. She got scared and tried to quickly put the book away but a page tore. When she saw who was in the doorway it was Tom. Becky got scared but when the teacher arrived he saw her book with a page torn out and Tom said that he had torn out the page. After a beating Becky thanked Tom.
