It is globally recognised and arguably will provide you with the most options when you are considering competitive colleges and universities.
That said, the DP is not the best fit for all students in which case we recommend courses.

For some countries e.g. the UK the DP is far more widely recognised than DP courses.
Other countries will pay very close attention to performance in HL subjects and set requirements based on that only.

If you do the DP the next step (Uni) will be a lot more manageable! 
Balance is critical - maintain outside interests.
Plan ahead.
Talking to an adult is vital - watch and talk to each other and  your teachers.
