Sparta was extremely dependent on agriculture. They grew lots of crops, and trade was not one of the most important things to them, so they had quite a bit of extra food. Invading other city-states also helped to get Sparta's funds in order, and helped them have supplies that they needed.

In my opinion, I think that Sparta was much more influential in Ancient Greek history, not only because there are numerous movies about this ancient Greek civilization, but also because Sparta was feared, and respected by almost all of Ancient Greece. Sparta was also very successful with their military, and they are one of the best known Greek civilizations to date.
