Classification Activator

Classification is the act or process of classifying something according to shared qualities or characteristics.

Collect your materials (suggestion: office supplies).
With your table group, agree on the classifications you will use to organize your materials. For example, you may choose "colour (pink, green)" or "size (S, M, L’)" as your categories.
Next, join with another group to share your classifications and discuss similarities and differences.
Inquire into the other group’s "whys" for their classification method. Discuss any misconceptions that occurred when categorizing the objects.

Think pair share routine - might be familiar with the strategy which is helpful.

Everyone has to think of their own definition so invites the full range of interpretations and ways of thinking.

Smaller group - allows for conversation and safety/comfort.

Asking them to draw what they think.

Ask open ended questions about inquiry - what do already know or what questions do you have? First words that come to mind.
