'Chapter 30' Jack Will is surely doing this out of peer pressure, right? He probably does want to remain on Julian's good side, for Julian seemingly has a lot of power as he' "popular". Julian is the antagonist, and Jack Will has already been established as a good person, so this feud between Jack Will and Auggie wont last.

'Chapter 1' On a base level, Auggie seems like a normal kid at his age, but it is clear that he has many insecurities stemming from his mandibulofacial dysostosis. Being insecure would be especially hard when you're not often exposed to the outside world like Auggie is, so treating your insecurities would be pretty difficult in this case.

'Chapter 33' It's quite obvious that Via feels like she's in the shadow of August at least to some extent, she does love August however it is clear she's happier when she's the center of attention. She expresses that she felt a lot of joy when she was alone with her grandma. I believe that was not only due to her being "fun", but also as she made it clear Via was the center of attention.

'chapter 34' The passage from the chapter "Seeing August" describes a moment when August's sister, Via describes "a fraction of a moment" where she saw August as the rest of the world does, I can picture the amount of exuberance from August when he saw Via for the first time in almost a month, and Via's split second of being caught off guard and hesitation. "...for this tiny fraction of a moment I saw him not the way I've always seen him, but the way other people see him. It was only a flash, an instant while he was hugging me, so happy that I was home, but it surprised me because I'd never seen him like that before. And I'd never felt what I was feeling before, either: a feeling I hated myself for having the moment I had it."

August is the farthest thing from a Static character, his character and overall mindset changes drastically throughout the book. He begins very pessimistic towards his parent's decision to put him in a private school. This mindset changes gradually over the course of the novel excluding the set back in chapter 30, when Jack Will insults August due to peer pressure. This results in August feeling hurt.

Sticky #8. plot development/events

The plot develops through events in which a problem occurs and often it resolves itself on it's own of course after some emotional scenes. While it may not be the most realistic plot wise, it still manages to be captivating most of the time. This is mainly referring to August's side of the story, for you don't necessarily sense to much conflict outside of August's plot. A lot of the plot's issues can be boiled down to three different types, Anxiety, Drama, or bullying. It's clear that August often feels anxious, especially during the beginning of the book, while it may not be spotlighted for much of the book past the first 30-40 or so chapters, it is present throughout the book. Drama is drama, it starts out as rumors, that often come to be via peer pressure, it spreads like wildfire and of course there would be a lot of drama surrounding August, for he is a person of interest at his school. Finally Bullying, a concept that in the book is often resolved through perseverance, and just beating them up.

Sticky #9. author's writing craft/style

R. J. Palacio's writing can be summed up in two words, Simple, and realistic.

She easily can get a point across, as the characters she speaks for go into great detail. However where her writing in some aspects fall short is in figurative language and overall craft. Though in some ways this can be a blessing, for it helps the book's characters feel more centered in reality as not many people (especially fifth graders) speak in an very literate and intellectual manor. This might've been the goal, as a simplistic writing style would come across as more casual as well as like I said, realistic. Something that the author does that I really enjoy is that the book switches perspectives throughout, this really helps emphasize one of the books main themes which is, everyone has their own point of view, and you should respect that.
