Even in the days of differentiated instruction and the idea that all students need to be reached, the industries that dictate curriculum -- textbook publishers, standardized testing companies, etc -- still don;t know how to design tools and materials that will accommodate the "jagged learning profiles" that we, as teachers, encounter each day. I'm really hoping this class will give us the tools to "take matters into our own hands" and begin reaching for the students at the margins while still working with the curriculum we're expected to cover.
