Hard to believe you’re turning 50 – it feels both unreal and completely natural at the same time. You’ve always been a few steps ahead – not just in age, but in style, in the volume of your stereo, and in how fast you could ride a moped.

I was always your little sister, watching a bit from the sidelines, secretly admiring you (and your friends), trying to keep up. But you were always there – sometimes teasing, often cool, and always a steady presence in my life.

Our summers on Orust, in Svanesund – with salty water, boats, and ice cream – and the winters on the ski slopes… Those memories stay with me, filled with the scent of childhood and freedom. Even though we’re now in different corners of the world – you in the warmth of Dubai, me here in Sweden – those moments are still close to my heart.

You’re not just my big brother – you’re a big part of who I am. And today, I celebrate you – all that you’ve been, all that you are, and all that’s still to come.

The weirdest thing that you are turning 50 - how come when you are only one year older than me??? I'm still in my late twenties ;-)

Lots of good memories together, and sadly (or maybe not) most from the time before digital photos... So couldnt find any pictures, so I will share a completly different picture!

One memory of all the good times at Kakalösagatan and celebrating you brithdays is the "Flygande Jacob" that we use to get at your celebrations. For non-swedes, it is a dish called "the Flying Jacob" that was very popular in the 80-ies & 90-ies, the time when we put exotic fruits in the food... 

Wish you all the best on your big day & we really hope that you will have a nice dinner (not sure if we wish for the Flygande Jacob or something completely different)

Then I met YOU!

It was June 2003, a London summer BBQ making burgers in the kitchen, me having just arrived back from my year working in South America. You walked in, the exotic Swede living in London, having just arrived from working in San Francisco. 🍔

Your curiosity and excitement about the world and music matched mine (although totally different music tastes!).

In 2008, we got married, inspired by travel our wedding gifts to our family and friends were travel books.

In 2009 we started a family together and suddenly, family life, unlike my prediction, became the greatest travel adventure of all. We don’t just visit places - we live and breathe them, absorbing everything each place has to offer. Our roots aren’t tied to any location. We have many places to call home but YOU, Otto, and Myla are my home.

I love watching our kids explore with the same wonder, making and meeting friends and family across the globe, feeling at home in multiple places. And like those travel books we gave out, here we are creating our own living family travel story together.

Thank you for all that you do. Keep that curiosity and adventure blazing for the next 50 years and welcome to the club - kids of 1975!

Wishing you the happiest of birthdays, dear friend!

You’ve always brought energy, warmth, and fun into every. We were genuinely sad (and okay, mildly betrayed 😉) when you and the family moved to Dubai. But then we visited… and everything changed.

Now, Dubai is a must-stop for us — not just for the sun and shopping, but for you. And let’s not forget that legendary desert safari. One ride with you and your Land Rover, and the kids were convinced you were a part-time stunt driver. I’m still recovering from that sand-dune slalom.

Jacob, you’ve been a fantastic friend and an even more fantastic human. Here’s to 50 years of wisdom (hidden really well), laughter, and all the adventures yet to come.
