Act 3 Scene 2

Act 3 Scene 2 is a scene where Juliet and the nurse are in despair over the fight between Tybalt and Romeo. This scene is very confusing because the Nurse is mourning over Tybalt's death and making Juliet think that Romeo is dead. Juliet is angry that Romeo is dead until she realizes that he was only banished. She is more sad that Romeo is banished than the fact that her cousin was killed by her husband. For example, when Juliet hears the news from the nurse she says, "Can God be so jealous and hateful?" (3.2.41). This shows how angry Juliet was when she thought her husband had been killed. In The Black Crowes' song, My Heart's Killing Me, it says, "My heart's killing me. This love won't let me be." Having their heart hurt over someone is similar to how Juliet feels when she thinks Romeo is dead.

Act 3 Scene 3 is a scene where Romeo complains of the banishment that has been bestowed upon him. Romeo feels as if death would be better than getting exiled out of Verona. Friar Lawrence is trying to make Romeo see that he is very blessed to be alive. The Nurse comes in and tells Romeo that Juliet is weeping over him. She then tells Romeo to go see her and escape her room before the night watchmen catch him. For example, when the Nurse tells Romeo that she is telling Juliet that he is coming he replies, "Do so, and tell my sweet to be ready to scold me." (3.3162). This shows that Romeo wants to see Juliet and is ashamed for being so selfish and rude about his situation. In Medina's song, Selfish, it says, "I'm selfish. I got an ego as big as a mountain." Being selfish is similar to how Romeo is acting over his banishment.
