An excellent example of 'emotional porn' and a video that ended up in a very controversial debate (many said that donations mostly went into their pockets, while others questioned the method of action they were proposing) is the Kony 2012 video. While I'm not a fan of the video or campaign myself, I have to admit the video was executed perfectly to achieve the goal they wanted.

Community Arts Project Summer at Kings Park

While researching how to develop print promotional materials, I discovered that for similar events there is usually a strong online presence, especially with charity events. For charity events there is often a dedicated website that encourages community engagement by explaining the cause and telling people how they can get involved.

To organise the budget and monetary aspect for the event. That is, look at how much everything will cost, such as hiring of the location, event staff, security, permits and event costs and where the money will come from (grants, donations etc). Also I have looked at how we can include our charity into the event so that people can understand what Mobile GP is about, additionally I have looked at how Mobile GP will be able to raise donations.

For this event we would expect to have as many people as possible to attend, therefore we need a space big enough in Kings Park to accommodate for that. The spaces that can hold enough capacityare and Hale Oval, Saw Avenue Amphitheatre and the Saw Avenue Lawn, however it would probably be best to hire out both the latter two to accommodate for more people.  Marquees that accommodate for 500 people at a time cost $3 000 per two hours and the lawn costs $400 per two hours. I would suggest that we hire one area with the marquee and one without.

Therefore for the say six hours of event would cost approximately $10 200

Additionally we need to think about how much event staff will cost and how many people we will need. Some roles could be filled by volunteers and then others would need to be hired. Security, cleaners and safety workers would need to be hired.  I would calculate that for the day costs for employees would be about $8 000 (If there are approx. 60 hired workers for 6 hours being paid approx. $20 per hour).

In terms of budgeting for the talent, we will find a group that has a vested interest in Mobile GP to volunteer their services- this would also attract more people to the event.

In order to make the event happen, we need money. I have decided that we should get a grant from LotteryWest because they are a big organisation who often support charities and will also bring a lot of credibility and publicity to the event. They have grants for community projects for up to $20 000.

Because that most likely will not cover all costs, I thought having a big company to donate money and sponsor the event would also be a good idea because they will bring people to the event and also publicity. BHP Billiton would be a suggestion as they have a Perth base and currently sponsor a variety of community projects.

In order to fund our even I would estimate we would need sponsorship of up to $10 000 (at least), this would pay for all the hiring and employment costs as well as permits and even some money to Mobile GP.

This event is raising awareness to Mobile GP and I have thought of ways of getting funds for them. An idea is having adults donate a gold coin when they arrive at the event. If 5000 adults come in throughout the day that would accumulate between $5000-$10 000 for Mobile GP.

An additional way to increase donation and awareness of Mobile GP is to have the workers talk to the people at the event and people who have benefitted from their services because this will drive the cause and appeal to people.

My role for the event is to engage individuals, families, groups, communities and enter into partnerships with the key community’s members, groups and services that provides supports towards the people who are disadvantaged.

While doing some research, I found involving those services that supports the disadvantaged people, improves their socialisation through
social inclusion such as involving in the events. Also, this event is focused
on community involvement and assists people to strengthen and improve their
social and emotional wellbeing and familiarising them into the diversity.

I found that the Facebook page for “World Food of Festival” event is a great webpage example for a community involvement event as it provides full details of the event to different organisations, businesses and communities and encourages community engagement.
The written content and photographs of the webpage is informative and interesting to readers. As a social worker, I would need to work with different professionals and social services that are located locally to get the most involvement of the people from the community.

Sell the tickets on the day of the event the event at Kings park. If people supply a substantial amount of food for the event or volunteer for cleaning or security then the can freely participate in the event. police can have free entry. Sell tickets from June hopefully 10000 tickets will be sold and this will cover the cost of hiring well known artists. Sell tickets at mobile GP and Perth government councils or departments. Sell artwork during the day before event and music throughout the evening till the early morning. food and soft drinks all day and evening. No alcohol or smoking as this is a family event and smoking and alcohol consumption carry risks. After paying for the whole park and entertainment perhaps $100000 can be raised for mobile GP.
