Working collaboratively with students that offer different perspectives is valuable to the understanding of a topic. Even taking a topic and discussing its importance through a biology, chemistry, and physics perspective will give different insight that will benefit all the students. Even though they are all science subjects, they still each have their own way to look at a topic.

In Biology I often set aside a day to talk about ethical issues and for students to debate both sides of an issue, regardless of individual view point. At the end of the lesson it is interesting and eye opening for the students to realize each other's unique viewpoint on the issue. We were talking about deforestation in biology class, and the discussion led to who is responsible for fighting deforestation. It was interesting because even though we could identify individual countries where it occurred, the solutions they came up with required an international effort to stop or lessen deforestation.
