Norton is probably the best antivirus/anti-scam surface/app available
-Norton offers an array of benefits and options.
-Protect your device and eliminate the virus's already in your device
-They also prevent virus's from ever getting in with their extremely strong firewall.
-Password manager, a VPN service, 10 GB of cloud storage. -The main downside to Norton is that it doesn't offer a free version, so if you're trying to stay on a budget I would suggest not using Norton.

Avast offers almost everything that Norton offers
-Same strong firewall
-Very strong antivirus
-Anti-scam systems.
-However the list of added benefits is also none
-They don't offer VPN's and Password Mangers, but this is probably due to them being a free service,
-They do still have payed options but the base option includes their highest antivirus/scam service's.
-It may seem that Avast is the obvious choice
-It doesn't offer the prevention that Norton offers, Avast eliminates the issue and identifies the scam after they have infuriated the system, it also doesn't learn and predict the changes in scam's and viruses like Norton does.

VPN's are very useful tools, they prevent scam emails, websites, etc. They also help hide your information from hackers, this is very useful when you work in a school, an office, or just anywhere that uses public WIFI. They also have other perks like the ability to change your location as well as others.

In conclusion to protect you information and device safety there are countless paths one can take, I would suggest no matter what switching to a browser other then chrome, getting a VPN, and registering with the government on a no call list should be something everyone does. I also think that getting a Avast or Norton subscription is also mandatory, I personally use Norton but will switch to Avast once I am on a budget in college. Norton is a better option but is pricy, and if your trying to save money Avast and switching browser is the best option for you.
