I'm inspired by how you have involved God and your church fam in the planning, how you surrendered all to God and instead knelt before Him than pushing for your own plans apart from His.

I wish I could be with you both face to face on your special day but nevertheless I rejoice with you for this special day!

Luis, you have told me how Andrea was the one who pointed you to Christ when times weren't easy. On that alone, she is a keeper indeed. Love her as Christ loves His church. Be quick to listen, slow to anger. When she speaks her mind, listen, as in really listen. And on days she is not at her best, love her still, and remind her how she is the most precious gem God has entrusted to you. Kaya yan! May grace. Hehehe.

Andrea, salamat. Salamat for sticking by Luis' side through everything. You are one of the tangible proofs of God's love for him, we welcome you with open arms to the family. Kung tinuloy mong basahin 'to, I take it as sure ka na makasama si Luis forever. In that case, good luck! HAHAHA. Syempre joke lang. I'm really happy for the both of you. Kahit childish makipagbiruan si Luis, sobrang bilib ako kung gaano ka-mature niya i-approach ang mga seryosong usapan. Sobrang caring and thoughtful niya sa mga kaibigan niya na sigurado akong mas grabe pa ang kaya niya ibigay sa magiging asawa niya. Nako Andeng, di ako umabot sa last minute bilin na matigas ulo ni Luis maliban sa sobrang corny ng jokes niya! Pero most likely alam mo na yun sa tagal mo sa pamilya na to hahahaha! From the hundreds of weddings I have served as a makeup artist, I couldn't recall having a momzilla on my makeup chair. There was the anxious mom who's upset as her kumare still doesn't have a seat at the table, a mom who was worried that her mascara would run when her daughter walks down the aisle, the stressed mom who would bark instructions at the coordinator. "How do you feel, mommy?" was the line I'd always use to strike a conversation with them, as I prep their skin for the make-do. On that makeup chair, more often than not, they would open their hearts out as if they were talking to their closest kumare. I'd listen and take them to heart, because I wanted to be ready for it when my turn comes.

Yesterday, August 20, 2021, was my turn. I became the Mother-of-the bride. While Alyanna was doing my makeup, I looked at the mirror and I realized, the surface of my skin was full of lines and crevices I hadn't really seen before. This mirror was definitely not my friend but seeing those ageing signs brought me back in time, back to Andrea's first days in pre-school. I remember that the separation anxiety was so intense that the teacher had to let me sit in class for a week so that Andrea wouldn't throw a tantrum. Fast forward after many years of turbulent, eventful, wonderful motherhood, now marked by lines and pores on my face, the table was turned. In the past crazy weeks of wedding preparations in the middle of the ECQ, while Andrea is filling up her luggage after we have gotten the confirmation that Andrea will be leaving for the UK soon, I felt the separation anxiety looming.

And now, I realized nothing, not even the hundreds of MOB's I've interviewed through the years, could have prepared me for this. Looking at my daughter as she walked down the aisle, my anxiety was suddenly replaced by joy. I felt the Lord's comfort as if he was holding my hand as I reached out to Andrea. My heart swelled as indescribable joy and gratitude filled my entire being. I am grateful that God, despite my damaged youth, found me worthy of having a daughter like Andrea who has blossomed to be what God intended her to be-a kind, sensitive, hardworking, determined, spirited young woman with a mission to save lives.

Roots and wings, that’s what you need to give your children, they say. Pastor Allan complimented Alan and me for doing a good job raising Andrea. I can say with all certainty we could not have done it without my Mommy +Yolie, Papa Al and Mama Annie , Butch Hilda, Roy and Liz, Alvin & Len, Kuya Rene, Lenni, the Palamoses and Privados, childhood and office friends, friends for life (there are too many to mention, you know who you are!) For 28 years, they have brought stability to our often wobbly three-legged stool. For that, I will be forever grateful.

While our family and friends helped me and Alan to build a strong foundation, her siblings Alyanna, Chloe, Ethan, Angela, amazing cousins and friends, helped her soar and come into her own. And now, the Suclads and the Moraleses have added such a rich, unexpected dimension to our lives. Well, Marianne, you’ve got your hands full. And the fact you treated Andrea like family since day 1 means the world to us.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Andrea, the Lord knew the one who would love you with all his heart. The man who would take on the role of head of your family with certainty and a little fear, the one who desire to uplift and encourage and love you as Christ loved the church.

Luis— she knew, the Lord knows. And now, this we all know: You are a treasure. It’s been a privilege to get to know you and I feel even closer to you now, after hearing the reflections of your family. Your humility, your loyalty, your steadiness, your patience. But most of all, we love you for loving Andrea with all your heart.
