The key perspectives for the supply chain design for Main Freight are as follows:

Structure of the supply chain- According to (Mayerson, 2014) a lean supply chain will be the best for the logistics supply chain management of Mainfreight. The structure the supply chain includes various process. The process includes various simple steps but with various complexities. Automated data collection- (robinsons, 2015) says that the use of barcodes or radio frequencies identification(RFID) is compulsory because it can track and collect the data about the product automatically and it is very beneficial as it decreases the human errors in decoding the and it is very cost effective because no human labour is needed and very less errors which can cause disasters. The second step will be transaction based inventory flow as it can help track the product every movement is tracked from arrival to slot replacement to picking to wrapping in this way it can help make a transaction which is the effective way to track the products. Then the third step will be dock arrival times. It plays a vital role in saving a lot of money because if all merchandise does not reach the dock at the same time then a lot of space will be wasted as only few products will be transported in the trucks. The fourth step is picking procedures and here prediction plays a vital role when the shipment is yet to arrive. Planning is also important as there can be a picking shortage in the portion of warehouse. Moreover, vendor compliance program is very helpful for the manger because it helps him to make sure that inventory is coming in the warehouse in correct time and in the right quantity and whether it is packed properly or not. Returns management is to make sure that if customer wants to return the product, as it is a additional cost the supplier can repair or return to the manufacturer. Lastly the flexibility, errors will likely to happen in the warehouse as a result warehouse team should adapt to the conditions and respond in way that they can meet to the demands of vendors and the customers.

Supply chain configuration

Multisourcing is the best for Mainfreight because of the following things.

It is very flexible and helps buyers during the shortage period. (srivastav, 2010)argues that, as there are multiple number of suppliers they can order the same type of product from some other manufacturer.

Backup source is always there to supply the products. If for some reason or any conflict arises between the companies and the company decided to cut off the supplies, then the backup can start suppling the products and the supply chain can work efficiently.

It helps avoid the complacency because if there is only one supplier and due to any conflicts, he decided not to supply products then major problems can arise for the company.

The indirect sourcing cost is very low. Also, the bidding become competitive as there are various manufacturers who try to win the bid and lead to low overall costs.

Also, they can respond to the changes in more appropriately and effectively. There are two types of flexibility and that are as follows:

Micro flexibility: if any issues or opportunities arises in the company then how quickly the response team detect them. For example, the truck is late, demand suddenly increases, a customer needs superior wrapping or handling then how fast and successfully can these changes be made or managed.

Macro flexibility: if there are any strategic or change in program happened then how swiftly the company can respond and adapt to the situations
