Don't just drop it.</div><div><strong>OWL Note:</strong> APA style requires authors to use the past tense or present perfect tense when using signal phrases to describe earlier research, for example, Jones (1998) <strong>found</strong> or Jones (1998) <strong>has found</strong>...</div><div>Examples:</div><div>O'Connor (2017) noted that her lesson about citations was backed by the cheers of excited students. &nbsp;</div><div>***</div><div>She stated, "There are many who think citation lessons are a bore; regardless it is a very important part of academics" (O'Connor, 2017, p.7).</div><div>***</div><div>O'Connor (2017) supported her reasoning with personal experience noting "The students I teach in college courses struggle with following citation rules, which makes for confusing papers" (p.8).</div>]]></description>
