I really do think that what makes teaching possible is summer. Not really because it is summer, but rather, the notion of an "end" and a fresh start. Because we are connecting with human beings, not products, not numbers on an excel spreadsheet... we benefit so much from having that new beginning.

Teachers need time to plan and to work together with other teachers without having to worry about peripheral activities that take away their energy and focus.
