Date: April 9-17, 1942

Description: After Japan attacked the naval base at Pearl Harbor, it began its invasion of the Philippines. Soon after the Battle of Bataan, Japan rounded up Filipino and American prisoners of war to march through the Philippines. Japan had captured 70,000 U.S. and Filipino prisoners who were ill and starving. They were forced to march to prison camps, and some died or escaped into the jungle.

Outcome: The outcome of the Bataan Death March was devastating, with thousands of soldiers dying due to harsh treatment, starvation, and dehydration during the forced march. Those who survived faced severe hardships and mistreatment as prisoners of war. It became a symbol of the brutality faced by soldiers during World War 2.

Significance: The Bataan Death March was important in World War 2 because it showed how cruel the Japanese army was to prisoners. After the Philippines fell, it made people realize how tough the situation was for soldiers. This event helped boost support for fighting back against Japan and brought American and Filipino forces closer together in their struggle during the war.
