At this age they are more likely to damage it. My daughter is in 10th grade and they have school based laptops that they bring home. She just got it this year in 10th grade. I think that in high school, the school should provide them for students. I also think that this can help limit the amount of online homework there is. Sometimes, schools give students a laptop expecting that when they go home, they will have internet access. That isn't always the case. I don't think they are responsible enough at that age to handle it properly. Once a student reaches high school age then I would consider it to be acceptable. Students in grades 4-8 do not have enough online work to need a take-home laptop or iPad.
