Q1 NHS systems as they are currently

The NHS has a branched information system for most of their hospitals and GPs, they tend to work by having one main backbone up and down the country, which is connected to each hospital individually, when in a hospital, for example the NHS it will then be split off into separate internal networks using an internal backbone, this means that for security reasons different sets of the network can be cut off and shut down. The transfer of information is very simple, and uses one piece of software which allows for each member of staff to view records for each patient, or other members of staff. Meaning that they do not have to spend time searching for files on a computer or network, it is as simple as a google search

Q2 Why were they set up in that way?

The systems were set up in this way for the sake not only of ease of access but it also is good for security, as if for whatever reason there is an attack on the NHS then it allows for the to put down virtual flood gates to prevent the flow of data either in and out of the given network, or internally between the different branches of the network which means that if an infection like the ransomware one occurs again, then they will be able to prevent it flowing through the network and to the external backbone, which in turn should prevent it spreading to any other hospitals or general practices

Q3 How efficient the information system is

These era information systems are quite efficient. This is due to all the information available being stored on the providers network. So all they have to due is set up a system where the user can search for key dates, keywords and specific topics. This would then search the database for the closest match to the information entered and will give you the result.
