Date; Dec 7th 1941

Military Branches: Army , Navy, Marine corps

Goals: The United States had moved the Pacific Fleet to Pearl Harbor as a warning to Japan. The Japanese responded by launching a sneak attack on the fleet in hopes of defeating the US quickly in the war. This was a defensive battle for American forces, which fought back as best they could.

Outcome: The Japanese sank or damaged sixteen ships, and killed 2403 American servicemen and civilians. Japan lost 29 airplanes, five midget submarines, and 65 men killed and one captured. While considered a victory at the time, the Japanese failed to destroy the submarine base, repair facilities, or fuel supplies, which allowed the US to recover fairly quickly. It also unified the United States in a desire to defeat Japan.
