Create keywords for the video, Since it is only short keywords are helpful to resonate with the audiences memory. The advertisement may not appear to have anything to do with the product , but will include undertones, logos , symbols and messages, and will usually resolve itself by the end of the production.

The Product or message may include a call to action at end. The tone of the production may target the heart, the mind, or both. This is dependent on the target audience.

Gaining the audiences attention within the first 5 seconds is vital to string them along to the message conclusion/brand name. There is no use showing the brand name straight off the bat, there needs to be some substance which strokes the audiences senses to become memorable.

I have decided to change paths with the idea for my video, rather than advertise a phony product, i want to create a trailer for a made up horror movie, with the main character being my cat.

The rough idea i have for the production is a steady stream of shots of the cat, edited to create a feel of terror and suspense. I will be thinking hard about the musical score and sound design for it, as this is one of the major factors in creating this aesthetic.

Creating the Foundations of Plotline w/ limited Time.
To work around the limited amount of time i have (30 Seconds)
Having Dialog overdubbed over the video footage, it will convey a brief sense of the plot to the viewer, I have seen this technique used successfully in alot of movie trailers. Creating the Aesthetic of Suspense in a short amount of time is important. I Have thought about also recording my Nephew (Age 4) to say a few lines for the trailer, It could be something as simple as... "Bad Kitty" or something along those lines, this could bring a new dimension of emotion to the dialog.

"My Bloody Valentine" (1981) Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awd9HMVF8pQ
This is a good example of a short trailer which quickly lays out the plot, and has good use of
music and dialog/commentary over the top which immerses the viewer into the theme of the movie.
"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974) Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs3981DoINw
What i like about this trailer is the use of strange imagery and shots which work harmoniously with the
musical score and sound effects. The Strobe like flashes of images, and emotive sound effects bring
a seedy overall feel and aesthetic to the production. With little to no actual gore, this trailer makes use of
good composition in order to create a feel of terror or suspense. I think these aspects are something i will
need to explore with my own production as my raw footage will rely heavily on editing to give it tension.
"House" 1986" Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWcZTEo3jmw
What i think is relevant about this trailer to my video, is the the composition of shots, The movement of the
main character throughout the house, and the timing of the action that occurs. This makes me think about what movements will my main characters make, and what shots and timing will i need to employ to create a feeling of
suspense or terror. I Particularly like the window and door shots, where something explodes through and scares
the viewer. Mirror scenes are also something employed heavily in horror movies. Which is something i think i should explore further.

Horror trailers are a bit of an art form in themselves, people see trailers that are compelling and full of action, and assume the trailer has given away most of whats going on in the movie, sometimes this is right. On the other end of the spectrum, trailers that show less and leave more to the imagination seem to be the movies that are overall better.1

Finding a balance with showing just enough action to peak interest, while leaving enough room to create an air of tension is one of the problems i will face. In my opinion small insinuations toward action can be just as compelling, if not more compelling when used as a tool with which to create suspense.

It has been argued that the feeling of fear and unease viewers experience directly after watching a horror film, is the result of a plot that is left unresolved.2 Perhaps the killer lives on, or there is no closure and the plot is left open ended. This can be an effective ending in a psychological way, and may suit some plots more than others. I think this is something that directly relates to a horror trailer, since a trailer is merely a snapshot of the movie, obviously there is no closure. I think if it is possible to quickly introduce characters to the viewer, and have them identify with them, then inject some tension into the scene, you can create a sense of mystery and excitement which will draw viewers in, and make the trailer memorable.

There is a definite philosophical paradox at play on the subject of fear as being pleasurable to the horror viewer, The main emotions that come into play if experienced in everyday life, are avoided at all costs. But the main cognitive theory of fear suggests that these emotions only become real when the subject believes they are in immediate danger. 3 This is where cinema draws a line between the real and the surreal. The unwanted terror that viewers experience is completely dependent on how emotionally gullible they are in a sense. Or how much they are drawn into the plot to believe it is real. I think because my subject is pets, something that it very rooted within real life, It is a good template to create believable foundations based in reality.

___________________________________________________________________________
1.

Rough Synopsis :
Main character Dale (Me) is gifted a cat by his girlfriend
who works away. Left alone with the cat, Dale quickly realise's there is something not right about the cat. Have been throwing up the idea of the cat being killed / Hit by a car w/ dale trying to cover it up burying it in the backyard, buying a new cat of the same colour/ breed. But then the original cat returns from the grave, leaving the corpse of the replacement cat on the back lawn.
This is a bit of a stretch for a 30 second clip though. but these are just rough ideas.

I want to have phone-call's between Dale and girlfriend dubbed over the top of tense footage of the cat. (Peering its head around corners w/ large eyes etc) The phonecall's would be like" D: Hey babe, i think there's something seriously wrong with this cat... E: why whats wrong?, D: i just found the neighbors cat dead on the back lawn, it looks like its neck is broken.
CUE INTENSE MUSIC. you get the point. I will work it out as i edit the footage and see what i can make work, the time constraint is the harshest problem i will face with this trailer idea. as it will be roughly half the length of a normal trailer.
