The most important benefit is finding a solution to a problem your classroom faces by yourself. That is, having the method and the tools to do so. This allows the teacher act swiftly and it could render quick results. Ultimately, it empowers teachers and boosts their confidence and motivation.
The downside is, as always, time. Action research is time-comsuming and it requires dedication. Moreover, collaboration is required, so finding peers to assist you is of critical importance.

I think that one of the most important benefits of AR is that teachers become more confident in their job practice and didactic approach because they acquire the ability to observe themselves from different points of view and this allows them to improve. AR can be also a way for feeling as an active part of a learning community because it is based on collaboration among teachers, Universities, trainers, and this is strong support for avoiding the well-known sense of isolation that sometimes teachers experiment when they feel alone in their job routine, without anyone to compare with and to share their reflections on teaching and their experiences at school with students.
The main disadvantage of AR is that it requires a long time and rigorous methods to be rightly conducted, that's why it is not commonly applied.

On the other hand, the main disadvantage of action research is that sometimes it's hard to suspend any preconceived ideas of what the potential solutions to the problem might be.

This video really confirmed my idea that teachers are somehow researchers throughout their careers, particularly if they are interested in learning more, in getting updated knowledge and improving their teaching practice to promote their students’ success. These are all advantages for me. I don’t think there are necessarily disadvantages or downsides of conducting action research and I believe this is the way to go, if you want to innovate and foster your students’ critical thinking skills. Action research allows for collaboration between teachers, because only through other’s feedback can we improve, but also promotes collaborative tasks in class and project-based learning activities and methodologies. Of course, you can always find obstacles (I wouldn’t call them disadvantages), as lack of time to meet colleagues, to attend their classes, to work collaboratively, particularly if I think about the Portuguese educational system, with the full timetables and bureaucratic work teachers have to do, but wherever there’s a will there’s a way, as I always say.

In my opinion it is difficult to find the appropriate solutions for the challenges we identify in our classroom.. Time is the most important obstacle. Not my time, but the time I teach these pupils. When I seem to find the best solution for a particular class to work, the pupils of this class move to another and I take new pupils. Sometimes, I can use the same strategies, but very often I have to look for new ones as pupils change. That's why it's crucial to share our findings with colleagues.

Do I work with the textbook in a critical way?
Do I use new media?
Is my teaching in accordance with my planning?
I also started setting the scene: My research interest should be relevant in my language classroom/for my learners,
my research question is manageable within my context & resources.
So far so good with the benefits;)
What I expect is for some obstacles to occur( not necessarily big ones), which I need to make efforts to overcome:
1/There should be a clear time frame.
2/My research interest must respect ethical principles( in my class I have students who are very advanced in learning English as a foreign language, as well as those who are beginners and are not very motivated to learn because it is difficult for them. It is a challenge for me to provide differentiated learning according to the level of achievement in the same class so that it is interesting and useful for both groups of students.
To take into account matters concerning
regulations, data protection etc. in my school.
To learn from this course suitable action research tools that will be appropriate for my research.
To inform students/colleagues/the school/ the authorities etc. about my project.
I have consulted colleagues.
The considerations above might be considered as a disadvantage to conducting the Action Research, in my capacity of a practicing teacher, yet participating in this Course, hopefully will equip me with the tools essential for the purpose.

I've decided to apply for this training course because I believe in action research and in its benefits for me as a teacher, for my students and for me as a person.
The benefits for me as a teacher are: to reflect more and better about my teaching and my student's learning, to discover what doesn't work in some activities, to change strategy and to apply the same strategies, already tested, in other situations. The benefits for my students are: to increase their motivation, to be involved in the learning process and to learn to self-evaluate. The benefits for me as a person are: not to get attached to what you've always done, always questioning myself, to change my point of view if necessary and to share my experience with others.
Perhaps the only disadvantage of action research is the lack of time but I think that this problem could be overcome learning to be more organized, becoming more familiar with this methodology and by getting used to it during the daily learning activities.

In my opinion the biggest benefit of action research is that it encourages educators abandon judgments and preconceptions and, maybe, realize to a deeper level all factors that have an impact on students' learning. As a disadvantage I can think of time restriction and the fact that not all educators are trained and, therefore, are not confident to apply it in the classroom.

I believe action research has only advantages. It has a lot of positive results on the teaching process and professional development of teachers. It helps overcome challneges by studying them and understanding their roots. The only problem may be that ittakes pretty much time.

One of the major advantages of AR is that it allows for classroom-tailored data that can further on be used to create a plan that could actually work for that specific classroom. Let's say you have very poor results for most students in one classroom, even if you have done your best to teach the lessons. And the AR data might show that students have personal issues at home that just do not keep them focused at school (parents working abroad, for instance). An action plan can be devised form these conclusions, wherein you could involve a school counsellor, parents, the local authorities, the school librarian, other teachers and provide students with a timeframe when they can actually focus on learning. One disadvanage would be that it takes time or that you cannot provide the same solution to other students, with different learning needs.

Better teachers, better students and better researchers. We have to start changing the way we look at curricula and ask questions, and take that into the classroom and think with students and colleagues. Let's make unhappy and sad classes into something beautiful, dynamic and like a flower or a tree something with roots for life and make life more worth living.
