This is my first week, so I got introduced to the two teachers in charge. The main syllabus the dance school uses is IDTA in which I am not fully aware of, although doing a different syllabus will help me to become more well rounded as a teacher in the future. The styles I would be assisting with is tap, ballet and theatre craft.

I then got introduced to the classes I would be helping teach. As there were two classes going on at the same time one for exams and the other for general class, I got put into the general dance class.

Due to it being my first week, I was learning how the classes are structured, teaching methods used and getting an overall feel for how classes are run.

In one of my classes with the teenagers, one of the dancers became injured, by using previous knowledge from what I had learnt about injuries at college and personal experience, I helped to assist.

With ballet being my most confident style of dance, I was excited for the ballet classes, I was more excited due to it being a different syllabus so I could include some of my knowledge from a different syllabus into this one, which could be very useful to me in the future after graduation

At the end of the classes, I left feeling refreshed and happy, I also felt like I had been challenged in a good way.

IN WEEK 2, after spending the first week looking into how the dance school is ran and getting to know the children in the classes, I was more prepared going into my second week at placement as I knew what would be going on.

During the first class we did some of the same exercises that we did last time, in which it was easier to assist teaching the girls and boys in the class.

We continued to teach some of the same exercises as we did the week before, this made feel comfortable as I would appear to the students that they could watch me with the confidence that I would be getting the exercise right.

In the class after the younger ones, we worked on some new exercises, as they were fairly simple, it was easy for me to pick up and perform them confidently for the girls to learn.

In the teenage classes, we were looking at doing the routine that they would be doing for there presentation. As some of the girls weren't present in the class, I stepped in and helped fill in the spaces.

By the end of the sessions, I felt like I was still being challenged as it was still new to me, but I was still coming out of the classes like I had achieved something by assisting the children in class.

In week 3, the children are starting to warm up to me and recognise me. Having the relationship to the children whilst I am there are important to me, as there was a sense of trust between me and the students, and it helped me to feel more included within the classes.

For the classes we were looking at there routines for there presentation, this was making sure that the children were in the right places and making sure they were doing the right steps. For the younger children this was more of a difficult task and took longer, but we got there in the end.

For the class after we worked on what they would be performing for the presentation, which was a few exercises that is already in there syllabus. This meant we just made sure that the girls knew what order they would be going in, and the transitions in-between each exercises.

We did the same for the teenage group, as there were still some girls missing I filled in for spacing again this week. I liked filling in for the missing members of the class, as it made me feel more involved with the class.

In week 4, The classes are still in full swing about getting ready for the presentation. Once we warmed the children up and took the register, we continued to work on the routine for the younger ones making sure all of them we doing the right steps and in the right places. Once the children warmed up and had done the routine a couple of times we played some games with them.

for the class after, we worked on the exercises that they will be doing for the presentation and then we worked on some other exercises that some of the girls were unsure on.

For the teenage group we worked more on the ballet routine which they would be doing for the presentation, we worked on adding more material onto the routine and making sure that the girls had the space and timing. We then moved onto the tap routine, which I still continued to fill in the space for a missing member of the class. I helped giving my opinion about different things we could include within the routine.

In week 5, it was the return to classes after the Christmas break. This meaning that the presentation was fast approaching. We warmed the first class up and as they were all hyper and running around I suggested the idea of playing sleeping lions as I knew the kids liked playing games. This gave Allison the chance to make sure everything was set up and was able to talk to the parents of some of the children. After playing sleeping lions, we warmed the children up and then got on with working on the routine for the presentation. After we went over it a couple of times, we then went over some of the main exercises's.

We did the same for the other class, in which we made sure the exercises looked clean and transitions were sharp so it looked presentable for the presentation awards. We then worked on some exercises from their actual syllabus.

For the teenage group, we worked on the tap number some more, I wasn't needed to be a fill in for the missing member of the group. which was a nice change as it meant I could watch the tap routine and give my feedback on what it looked liked.

In week 6, I was creating closer bonds with more of the students which I liked as it meant classes felt more personal and involved. It also showed me that the children were trusting me which I liked. The presentation was this week, so the main focus of all the lessons today were going over what was going to be done in presentation evening. Cleaning up entrances and exits and making sure the children knew what they were doing.

At the end of the class for the younger ones we played some games with them as they had done well in the class.

In all the classes we made sure that they still went over exercises as some children had exams coming up. So we couldn't just focus on one thing. we made sure for those doing the exam that there eye-line, posture and feet positions were correct

In the teenage class, we focused on exercises as well as the routine for the presentation, as the older students could concentrate better we could split the time so that they could work on both exam stuff and presentation stuff.

In week 7, the presentation evening had been and gone. So all the classes were back to normal. I have formed good relationships with the pupils and feel like they are in the position where they trust me.

for each of the classes we went over there normal exercises, as some of the girls had exams coming up within the next coming weeks.

In each of the lessons we focused on there posture and presentation when they go into the exam and getting the girls and boys prepared for the exam.

In week 8, we continued to work on the main syllabus exercises, still working towards the exam in 2 weeks.

we continued to focus on the transitions into each exercise and their focus and feet positions so they could do the best they can in the exam.

as the teenage class weren't focusing on an exam, I helped the girls go through the exercises, giving them pointers for their technique.

In week 9, as certain classes have exams next week we go through all the exercises in the syllabus start to finish, making sure that the pupils know the exercises and can perform them confidently. We allowed the girls to repeat exercises they were least confident with and break them down and go through them in detail so they could be at the same standard as the other exercises.

for the youngest class and the teenage class, we warmed up the students and went over the exercises. for the younger ones we played games, which they liked to play.

for the teenage class, as one person was in the class.. I helped them go over all there syllabus work. When she was stuck we got the videos up on youtube and looked at them a couple of times and then we worked on the exercise.

doing this gave me confidence that I could do this after graduation and that I could do it.

In week 10, this being my last week, and the exams being in a couple of days we still continued to work on the exercises but going through all of them with a fine tooth comb. As it was also the last week before easter we still had some fun and games with the children.

For the youngest class we did some of the warm up exercises, and then during the change between the tap and ballet class, we went outside and 'found treasure' this was a fun way of letting the children blow off some steam. We then went into the ballet class and pretended to be flowers and fairies which the kids loved.

for the next class as the kids were taking there exam in a couple of days this was the class that we were taking the exam in a couple of days. we went over the exercises from start to finish, then we worked on the mime section of the exam. For this section the girls will have to portray a certain role such as: fairy or cat etc.. and then say how the music makes them feel.

For the teenage class, as none of them were doing exams we casually went through the exercises, picking the ones the girls haven't done recently, so they could get every exercise to the same standard.
