Conception begins when a man's sperm fertilizes a women's egg. While women are menstruating they release one of their eggs (ovum) into their fallopian tubes. The ovum is made up of 23 chromosomes from their mother's traits. When the father's sperm (which also contains his 23 chromosomes) penetrates the outer membrane of the ovum it then travels through the cytoplasm where it finally penetrates the nucleus. Once the sperm's outer body disappears, it becomes part of the nuclear material in the fertilized ovum. This forms the zygote.

Pregnancy typically lasts on average 9 months. Through out those months the zygote will continue to separate and create more cells and then developed into an embryo. From there the embryo continues to grow each day and develop into a new tiny human. While the baby is developing the mother's lifestyles can greatly affect the child if they are not careful. It is strongly considered that women receive prenatal care to ensure the baby is growing healthy and developing on track. One of the most surprising things I've found is that throughout the entire pregnancy the central nervous system is very sensitive to any kind of teratogen that may affect it negatively.

Around 9 months later the baby is ready to be born. A mother will know when it is time when she begins to experience contractions. During this time and the baby begins to decend the mother's vagina opening begins to stretch and tare so the baby will be able to descend further down the birth canal. When the mother begins to experience contractions and she is dilated at an appropriate length she is encouraged to push. This process could take hours or up to several days. When the tiny human finally enters a healthy baby will begin crying and the umbilical cord will be cut completely detaching the baby from the mother.
