This was one of the last battles of the war, and happened in and around Berlin, Germany. Russian troops surrounded the city of berlin and starved the German troops on the inside. The battle ended with Hitler and several of his close companions committing suicide together.

Almost a quarter of a million lives were lost in the last three weeks of the war in Europe. Though it was extremely costly to lives on both sides, the battle was a decisive victory for the allied powers, and was the last stand of the German army.

This ultimately destroyed the german forces, and lost them the war. With the Fuhrer dead, Germany was leaderless and bound to surrender to the allied powers. The european theater conflict had come to a definite halt, with allied victory.

The U.S. troops took the butt of this battle, but the germans also took major losses. the allied troops were shaped like a peninsula, or a bulge, giving the battle its name. It was a loss for germany because they lost many of their experienced troops.

This battle was a very taxing battle for the germans. The germans did not have the troops to replace the soldiers lost in the battle. They were weak for the following battles and sealed their defeat.

Germans could not start another battle on the offensive. The weakened german army opened them up to an attack from an allied power. The Russians took advantage of this, and advanced on the extremely weakened city of berlin.

The Battle of Stalingrad was the Russian military's successful defense of the city of Stalingrad from Germany's offensive push. In September of 1942 Germany had reached the outskirts of Stalingrad and expected to take over the city. The Russian troops kept a steady defense and didn't break under German attack. Eventually, German troops would be starved of resources and unprepared for the Russian winter until surrender.

The point of taking Stalingrad was entirely for symbolic victory for the Germans. It seemed to have backfired, as Hitler was humiliated and the momentum that the axis powers had built was completely stumped. Hitler had lost the trust of his generals, and Stalin had gained greater trust from his military. It truly turned the tides of the war.

With the momentum of Stalingrad the Russian military would start to push German territory. Germany, having lost this battle, would have to go on defense to regain the momentum of the war. With Russia on offense and Germany attempting to regain momentum, the likelihood another conflict was on the rise.

After the battle of Stalingrad, the soviet line would pierce through enemy territory. Germany had set plans to attack the Soviets by attacking the north and south sides of the Kursk Salient. The Soviets would stand their ground against the Nazi's push and would counterattack with an aggressive offense to reclaim both Orel and Kharkov. Hitler would then stop all operations at Kursk with another loss to the Soviets lingering in the war.

Kursk was the battle to completely shift the momentum of war to the Allies. Russia was able to stump Germany with Stalingrad, but at Kursk they showed a notable push against the Nazi army. The axis was now on the back burner and morale for Germany was low. The battle had made Germany lose plenty of its armored units, and now the Eastern Front was in the hands of the Allied forces. Without the victory at Kursk, it's possible Germany could've continued it's offensive and aggressive nature.

The Allies now had more momentum and control over the Eastern Front then before. Because of this power grip they gained, they could focus more on the western front and push more offensively. Momentum was everything in the war, and now the Allies would be able to pursue an aggressive attack on the Western Front and, specifically, the Gustav line.

The Battle of Monte Cassino was a series of assaults of the Allied forces against the German army to break the Gustav line. The attempt to break it through the Rapido River was a major failure, and the Germans used the environment to make a costly stalemate out of the engagements. After the 34th infantry took the anchor of the Gustav line, the holy shrine of the abbey, allied bombers tried to launch another assault and destroyed the abbey. Finally in May, Operation Diadem had the Polish corps ending the engagement by winning the abbey and clearing the route to Rome.

Monte Cassino was being used as a powerful asset for German intelligence and stood as a wall for Rome and the rest of the Italian campaign. With the Allies breaking the Gustav line they now had more momentum on the western front and were able to pursue the rest of the Italian campaign.

The Battle of Monte Cassino provided a strong push for the Allies in the western Front, and proved to be a great victory for the Allies. Because of their better position on both fronts, a push into France seemed possible. The Invasion of Normandy was now in the mind of the Allies to reclaim French territory.

The Invasion of Normandy was the all out allied amphibious invasion of, the German controlled, French Northern coast. The allies ran a deception campaign to catch Germany off guard. Thousands of American, British, and Canadian troops stormed French beaches and successfully secured the area. Allied air support destroyed bridges and Germany was stuck without armored support, and was unable to stop the allies from pushing.

The Invasion of Normandy is considered the beginning of the end of the war. Hitler could no longer use French troops to help him fight the advancing Soviets, and now the allies were pushing farther into Germany's iron hold in central Europe. This was when the allies utilized the Axis shortcomings to shift weaken the Axis military defense, and it was a successful operation.

With this victory on the Allies' side, they would soon plan to meet with the soviets who were on the other front of the war. With Germany in a bad position, the Axis would fight as hard as possible to stop Ally invaders. The Soviets and the German Army would soon meet with Operation Bargration.

Over 12 days in May 1941 a mixed force of New Zealanders, British, Australian and Greek troops desperately tried to fight off a huge German airborne assault. Despite suffering appalling casualties, the parachutists and glider-borne troops who led the invasion managed to secure a foothold on the island and eventually gained the upper hand. The battle ended with the evacuation to Egypt of the bulk of the Allied force.

The significance of this event was this is the first battle that civilians were involved. This was the first turning point of the war. This was the last defense of Greece and they won. This was the highest percentage casualties suffered by the German Army in a single action up to that point in the war.

This lead to operation Barborssa because this was to capture western Soviet Union and take slaves to fight in the war and help them because the amount of loss they had in the battle of Crete.
