My idea of the piece was to start a squid like shape or being. I felt that as I worked with the piece and materials it was best as a more abstracted version of the "squid" like figure. I tried to allow the obstacles of using no brushed and a vast amount of house paint to flow nicely rather than halt the progress of the piece. I used dr martens to experiment with a more dynamic background. I am pleased with how the background and the focal point merged into one cohesive part of the piece.  I think that overall it is my style and aesthetic but still is experimental and goes well with the idea of growth. Utilizing the shadows for an effective composition was very enjoyable and I would do it again. I feel that it has become maybe a crutch to me. It is strong for me and rather easy so for this trip to botanic gardens I used a medium I am more uncomfortable with collage and more detailed acrylic. Overall I am happy with the end result. I got to a point with this piece that I almost decided to discontinue working on it. I struggled while working on it quiet a bit. It was my first time using gouche. It is now one of my all time favorite mediums to manipulate. I really learned how to layer and let things dry and then go in and add more with this piece. I saw how effective of a process that this can be. I think that the style and methods I used in this piece will be something that I incorporate into my concentration. I hadn't worked on different colored paper all semester and the black here I think is very helpful in tying the whole piece together. I wanted to create something more interesting than a basic still life or a basic charcoal. I decided to blend the styles of charcoal and contour line to create an effective more interesting piece. I like how it came out. I think it has a good focal point and some movement. I think in a way it comes down to people needing to support each other as well. Humans are stronger together and a healthy person or individual comes from having a strong support from other people.
