 Desde la revolución industrial hasta hoy, la quema de combustibles fósiles (petróleo, carbón y gas), que se usan para producir energía, libera gases de efecto invernadero (CO2) a la atmósfera, aumentando la temperatura de la Tierra y provocando una  distorsión en el sistema climático global.
 
 La humanidad se encuentra ante una encrucijada histórica. Los científicos advierten que si la temperatura global supera los 2°C las consecuencias serán catastróficas. Si cruzamos este umbral, los impactos económicos, sociales, políticos, culturales y ambientales perjudicarán seriamente a todas las regiones del mundo.
