Welcome to our Room 12 version of the 'Student News'!

On here, I will post any messages that you might need to know for your learning, or just in general (like maybe a link to a Just Dance video!), OR even things like a blog post or article that might be cool for you to check out!

Please remember to keep an eye on your gmail (email) inbox, and don't delete emails, otherwise you might lose vital information that you need for your learning.

If you have anything that you'd like to share, please email me, and I will check whether it will be appropriate to share on our Room 12 News page.

Friday 20th August - Day 2 of Lockdown

Hey team,

How are you guys finding lockdown this round? Have you checked in with the people you live with? How are they doing?
It's great to be checked in on, but it's always nice to just ask someone else how they're doing.

So a small challenge for you today is, to check-in with someone you live with...and even better if you can check-in with someone you don't live with via Google Meet, sending an email, giving them a call or sending a text.

My lockdown is going okay. All I know for sure is that i'll be gaining a few kilos this round - i'm typing this and eating lollies right now. Hi-Chews are deeeeelicious man! Have you guys tasted the Soda Pop packet? Woah!

There are no big messages today, except...
- Work through your tasks, and if you get stuck or have a question, you can send me an email
- Remember to file your work into the correct folders (Reading, Writing or Maths folder)
- Have a brain-break - close your chromebook, walk away from it. Get some fresh air, have a snack, chat to someone, etc.

Remember to log-off at 3pm. Help around the house with chores. Help with cooking. Have a rest!

It's great to get work done, but it's even better to know and understand that your body and mind need a break to rest as well.

Monday 23rd August - Day 5 of Lockdown

Hey team,

I'm not sure about you guys, but it feels like the weekend went super quick! It was Friday...5 seconds later, it's Monday!

I hope your weekend went well! Did you get out of the house and go for a walk? Did you play any Board Games? Did you catchup with friends and family over a video call?

Whatever you got up to, I hope that you managed to catch some rest in between. Lockdowns (and staying home) can be pretty cool, but it can also get very tiring with online learning (looking at a screen can slowly make your eyes go...cross-eyed!

So, in saying that - on any school day in lockdown, remember to take brain-breaks. Walk away from your chromebook...or for a super quick 'eye-break' - look away from your screen. It will really help you in the long-run!

Remember to post a blog today.
It can be a completed task OR it can be a post about what you have completed so far. (Eg. Take a screenshot of what you have done so far, upload the screenshots, and write a short description about what you have worked on today).

Hey team!

Our Google Meeting is at 9.00am. It will be for 30 minutes. This will be our only Google Meeting for today, as the teachers will all be busy learning a little bit more about DMIC. It should be a pretty good session.

If you don't make it onto our Google Meeting (and you're now reading this...*BRUH* haha), please try your best to make it to our 9.00am Google Meeting tomorrow okay!

Your tasks for today...(and remember, today is your LAST DAY to finish these tasks):

When you finish these tasks, please 'SHARE' your learning on your Blog. Remember to write about what you were learning about.

Wednesday 25th August - Day 7 of Lockdown

Hey team!

Can you believe we've been in lockdown for a week now?! Unbelievable! Do you have any predictions on how long you think we will be at Level 4?

Our Google Meetings today will be at 9.00am and 2.00pm. Our 9.00am meeting will be for 30 minutes where I will introduce the new tasks that we have. The 2.00pm meeting will be a Q&A session, and to check-in with anyone who's needing a bit of support/help.

I've had a look at blog posts, and I have given out tokens to those people who completed those tasks/blogs. Well done! You can check out who's in the lead on the Fale points score board - this can be found under 'New Windsor Way' on our class site. Just remember team...I AM checking your work and giving out tokens!

Thursday 26th August - Day 8 of Lockdown

Hey team!

Happy Fri-Yay Eve! Woohoo! I can't believe it's Thursday! I've been waiting for Thursday to roll around because it's my night that i've chosen to cook for my bubble. I'm going to be attempting (for the first time ever!) Karaage Chicken. I'll be pairing that with some rice and a coleslaw. Although i'm still trying to decide whether I will make a coleslaw from scratch, or whether i'll buy a packaged one.

FYI (For your information) - Karaage Chicken is Japanese fried chicken. I've been looking forward to attempting this dish, especially after my attempt of Katsu Chicken last weekend (another Japanese dish). I don't know what it is about Japanese food (and Korean food) at the moment, but i'm super keen to give it a go! EXCITING!

Back to learning...(cos Ms Key could talk about food with Mr Jones and Mrs Ghosh all day!).

Hey team!

Welcome to your first day of Disconnect-Ed Distance Learning.

Did you guys hear that thunder, and see that lightning lastnight? WOW!

Your tasks for today (and Thursday) can be found here - Disconnect-Ed.

Please read the instructions...and once you finish reading the instructions...CLOSE YOUR CHROMEBOOK, and go and complete the task. You do not need your chromebook once you've read the instructions.

You might even be able to ask an adult/someone in your bubble, if they can look at the instructions so that you don't have to open your chromebook. You never know, they may also be able to collaborate with you on the task!

Complete 1 task (or 2, if you really want to!), take pictures, and then post it on your blog at the end of the day. After you post on your blog, close your chromebook, and walk away :) Seriously!

I am really looking forward to seeing how creative you guys can be with these tasks!!

One last thing - remember to do the 'Must Do' task!

Hey team!

How was your first day of Disconnect-Ed? What did you think about it? I was super impressed with the creativity I was seeing happening! Well done to you all (and your families) for collaborating on some of those tasks! I'm keen to hear what you guys thought about the tasks, so feel free to send me an email with your thoughts and feedback!

So...I love this meme (above) - It really speaks to me haha because not only have I been eating so much extra food in lockdown, BUT, it's also the 1st day of September! *shocked face* Which means for me...it's my birthday month! Although, at this rate, i'm pretty sure my birthday will be in lockdown...which is similar to how some of you have celebrated your birthdays *sad face*, but you know what? It's okay! And there are ways to celebrate these kinds of things when in lockdown!

Anyway...over to today's tasks!

I hope that your Disconnect-Ed day of learning went well!

Today is all about the "3 F's"...Woohoo!
Friday + Father's Day + Finish work

Your tasks for today are to:
- Father's Day - Make sure that you have something prepared or sorted for Father's Day for the Father figure in your life. (Have you created a card? Have you organised your menu for his breakfast? Have you written a poem?). Write a short blog post (a paragraph) about what you will be doing or what you have created.
- Finish Work - Have you finished all your tasks? Check that you have completed your tasks for this week. You should have a blog post for each day (5 blog posts this week). Finish any incomplete tasks.

Frinally...I mean, FINALLY, make sure you do something nice for someone in your bubble. Offer to make them a cup of tea, or make them lunch. Sit and have a conversation with them and ask how they're doing. Clean up without being asked.

I hope you all had a great weekend...and had a great celebration of Father's Day with your father or father figure - whether that be your grandad, your uncle, or your older brother! What did you get up to? I know that some of you had some awesome plans in mind! Could you do a blog about it?

This week is Tongan Language Week! Do you know any Tongan phrases?

Your tasks for today (and not just for today...but for this week) are:
- Maths - Make a copy of the slide and work through each task. We have covered these topics this year, so this is a great way to practise and maintain that knowledge.
- Reading - It's Tongan Language Week this week! Read about and learn about Tonga! I look forward to reading your blogs about what you learn about Tonga this week!
- Writing - Have you ever thought about what it would be like if 'Toy Story' were real?! Put yourself in to the story...and imagine, what would you do if your toys came to life?!

Tomorrow is our Disconnect-Ed day. Do you have any suggestions or ideas that you'd like to put forward for learning? Click here to offer your ideas.

These are easy points guys! So make sure you get all your Fale members doing these things. The more people that do it all the time, the more points you'll get!

Hey team!

Welcome to your first day of Disconnect-Ed learning this week!

Shout out to the people who submitted ideas for this week's tasks! Remember, you can still out the form and suggest other types of tasks/activities as well...even if you've already sent your ideas!
The more ideas you guys offer, the more ideas we'll have to choose from!

You have 6 tasks (2 of them are kind of linked together) to choose from for today and on our other day of Disconnect-Ed learning this week (which will be on Friday!).

Choose 1 or 2 tasks to work through today. Take your time. Allow the creative juices to flow! See if you can get your family to collaborate with you on some of the tasks.
You may even be able to go for a walk with your family...it's your day to disconnect from your device, and connect with your family!
If you can think of another activity/task you'd like to do, GO FOR IT!

Wednesday 8th September - Day 21 of Lockdown

Hey team!

How was your Disconnect-Ed day? I saw some of the cool things people did yesterday (designing, creating, inventing, BAKING!), and i'm so proud of you all! On Thursday we might have an extended 'sharing' time in the morning so you guys can share, talk, and give feedback to each other on some of these awesome creations!

Thursday will not be a Disconnect-Ed day - instead, we will have Disconnect-Ed Friday!!

Now, today is going to be a U-Choose day.
What does that mean?
It means that you get to choose what it is that you want to work on. You have Reading tasks (Tongan language and culture), Maths tasks (A bit of everything), and you have your Writing task (Toy story...which I know some of you have completed already!).
So, it is up to you what you work on today! Some of you may still be working on finishing your Disconnect-Ed task that you started yesterday...and that's okay also!

The ONLY requirement from me is that you upload ONE BLOG POST today!
It can be about anything - U-Choose!
As long as it is appropriate, respectful, and meets the expectations of being cybersmart, it is all good! If you are unsure about this, you can send me an email to confirm your blog post topic!

Our Google Meets today will be at:
9.00am-9.20am: Quick Check-in/Tasks
11.30am - 12.00pm: Game (Yes, please join in!)

We won't have a 2.00pm Google Meet today. In fact, at 2.00pm, close your chromebook and go play outside (hopefully it's not raining), hang out with your family, or go watch a movie!

Just like your chromebook needs to recharge, so too does your mind and body! Maybe you can find a movie that you can watch with people in your bubble? Maybe you can go for walk.

We can talk about some ideas when we meet in our morning Google Meets!

Monday 13th September - Day 26 of Lockdown

Kia ora team!

I hope you all had a great weekend! It was my sisters birthday yesterday, so we had a lockdown birthday celebration for her. It was pretty cool! But hopefully, when we're out of lockdown, we'll be able to celebrate her birthday properly with the rest of our family!

Miss Anderson will be running our Google Meets sessions today (i'll be on there, but i'm a bit sick at the moment and don't have a great voice), so Miss Anderson will be stepping in. #DontBeAChangesGuy

It's Te wiki o Te Reo Maori (Maori Language Week), and there are some wero (challenges) that have been set up for you guys! You can find them on our 'Language Celebrations' page on our class site.

- Lockdown Story Project (Projects)
- Science

Ka pai to those of you who completed yesterday's wero (challenge). It's not always easy to learn a new language, but the effort that you put into learning some Te Reo Maori this week really counts!

Today is our Disconnect-Ed learning day.
This means...
- No Google Meets
- Trying your best to stay off your chromebook as much as possible, and hangout with people in your bubble

For today's Disconnect-Ed task there is a Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori task, which should be completed at 12pm! Make sure you set your alarm for 12pm so that you can take part in the Aotearoa challenge!

There is also a new recipe on there (donuts...yum!), and a nature walk.

Don't forget to complete today's wero. You can earn 5 fale points if you complete the wero and post it to your blog!

How are this weeks wero going? I've seen some amazing blog posts the last few days...including Raeed's pepeha, and Darcy's blog on Apirana Ngata and Maori kupu he has learnt! Ka mau te wehi!

It's Disconnect-Ed day! Woohoo!

There are no new Disconnect-Ed tasks for today. Instead, please check the current tasks for Chinese language week (Tuesday challenge), Reading, Writing, and Maths.

Well done to those of you who got fale points...Chloe, Raeed, Marejke, Madeleine, Aksshat, just to name a few! Keep it up guys!

Step outside for some fresh air, have a cup of tea with someone, initiate a conversation!

Tomorrow morning (Wednesday) we will not be meeting at 9.00am. Instead, we will do a Lunchtime hangout/Google Meet at 12.30pm. Feel free to set your chromebook up safely, and do some cooking! Miss Anderson and I will be making some food, (and some of you might do the same), and we can do a bit of a chat and cook and hangout session.

We will be cooking either dumplings or bao, and you can do the same too. OR you can cook something else. We will be meeting for about an hour!

I hope your week is going great so far!

Well done to so many of you who have been taking on this week's Chinese language week challenges! You guys are doing such a fantastic job!!

It's been so great to see people blogging not only about Chinese language week, but also about what they've been doing in lockdown.
So many fale points have been awarded in the last two days! Keep it up guys!!

Today we will be having ONE Google Meet.
This will be at 12.30pm.
Our Google Meet will be a catchup / hangout / cooking & eating meeting.
Miss Anderson will be making some yummy salmon snacks...and I am still yet to decide (i'm tossing up between bao and dumplings!).

So...if you're keen to do some cooking and eating and talking with us, make sure you have your chromebook setup carefully (and away from food and drinks), and that you have your cooking ingredients and recipe ready. You can cook anything you like. Even if you just want to make a sandwich. OR maybe you just want to come along and talk and watch others cook. That is cool too!

❗️IMPORTANT GOOGLE MEETING AT 10.00am❗️

Can you believe it is Day 90?! We have literally been in lockdown for 3 months!! Whaaaaaat!! 🤯 Crazy!

Your tasks for this week are Reading, Writing and Maths - check our class site for the tasks. Please remember not to rush through the tasks - these are designed so that you follow the sequence of Learn - Create - Share. IF they are done properly, the tasks should be spread out over the week.

I hope that you all had a great weekend! I feel like I blinked and *whoosh*, the weekend was over! The days are getting hotter though, and the nights are getting longer, which is awesome...because it means Summer is almost here!

ASB Zoom at 9.30am!!

Our first meeting for the day will be at 9.30am...not 10.00am. It will be on Zoom. So please make sure you show up early! And don't forget...it's at 9.30 for all you people learning from home!

Our second meeting for the day will be at 12.00pm!

WOW! We made it! Woohoooo! Well done to you all for showing up both to school, and to our online Google Meets! We are living in tough times, and it's not easy to do our 'normal' stuff during a pandemic/lockdown/distance learning, but you guys keep showing up each day! I'm super proud of you all!! *tear* We've made it to Day 100!! *group hug*

We made it!!!

Today is the last day for distance learning! From Monday onwards, those of you learning from home, can continue learning using the home learning packs 👍🏼 There won't be any daily Google Meets...BUT - next Thursday and Friday we will look into having a Google Meet for the presentations.
