Camila is a girl with a passion for soccer along with her family. Her family consists of descendants from all around Europe and further east. Although her more immediate family prefers she stays away from it. As stated by her mom ,”... a futbol stadium’s no place for a decent senorita…” But Camila went on and won her soccer championship while trying to stay hidden from the public for too long, and trying to hide how she was a part of a feminist movement as it would get her kicked out of school. Camila earned herself the name “Furia” as given by her teammates.  With that, the story so far seems to be about Camila playing soccer behind her parents and some family member’s backs but the way Mendez describes the parts in the story was packed with significant detail.

In the novel, FURIA, by Yamile Saied Mendez, A 17 year old girl, Camilla, loves her passion for futbol or soccer, but has to hide it from her family as they don't believe that it isn't meant the sport to be played for women or girls. As Camilla continues on to follow her dreams to play in the champion leagues in the United states and become like her older brother, for becoming a superstar in soccer. Everything changes when Camilla's ex lover, Diego, come back into the town after his trip from italy and being such known as one of the best successful superstars in the league.  They have stopped communicating at one point which changed Camilla and her route as a soccer. But to prove that her dream and her passions without Some guy that's super popular and rich in her own life, but diego went back to her town and she struggles to keep her own distance away from him, worries about her time with him and worried he might interfere with her dream of playing in the United States. Typical first-date questions are pointless because she already knows diego so well. The tension doesn’t last long as Diego talks about living in Turin, Italy, and how much he misses Rosario. The car makes its way past dozens of poor children playing along the litter-filled streets, and they arrive at El Buen Pastor. The building used to function as an asylum where people would send their disobedient daughters , women who fought for equality and rights. Now, it’s used by Father Hugo to provide after-school workshops and English lessons for children.
Diego knows Father Hugo from childhood. When Diego was eight years old, his mother abandoned him, but Father Hugo took Diego in and helped connect him to his adoptive mother, Ana. In a casual interview with Father Hugo, Camila shares her motivation for learning English: she wants to play soccer for a college in the United States. But Camilla knows better than to try to lead him back into her life again so she can avoid another heart break so she tells him that it would be better off if they didnt see each other, knowing how much it was going to hurt the both of them. 

The conflicts that happen in the story so far is internal and external such as human vs society- Camillas parents do not think its ladylike to play soccer and therefore she has to hide her passion from them. Also human vs self - Camilla is debating if she should be with Diego again because she does not know if hes good for her or not. 

Characters: Camilla (the main character) shes very independent and hardworking and knows her worth, dreams and passions. Diego (Camillas first love) hes a famous soccer player who falls in love with Camilla and she does with him. Roxanna ( Camillas best friend) shes very understanding and supporting of Camilla and will do anything that is best for her. Camila then gets recognized by him while on his way to an event but she hides from him as she doesn't want to be seen on television. The two meet up later and Diego also reveals that he will go back to his city in a few days.  They stick with each other for a whole day with Diego teaching Camila how to drive for the first time in his supercar. This all leads to Camila giving a second thought to what she is doing with him and Camila tries to avoid the fact that she may be falling for him again even though he left just like the first time she fell in love for him.

A few conflicts in this story include Camila and her mother's relationship with how her mother doesn't think Camila should play soccer. Which is an external conflict. One other conflict which is seen most in this part of the story is "person vs themself" and it includes how Camila is fighting her feelings about Diego as he is just going to leave her at Rosario like he did the first time she fell for him.

Camila- A teenage girl that works better and more often by herself. Although she may seem all over the place in her mind, she knows what she wants and what she wants to achieve.

Diego- Soccer superstar that moves around the world for his games. He ended up in Rosario and took Camila on a date like situation which shows he may have feelings for her.

This makes Camila think about what would happen if she told her other secrets like how she sneaks out to play soccer. She takes the bus to her friend Roxana's house and notices someone on the bus who used to play with her brother, Pablo, and Diego. She later finds out that Diego posted a picture of them two together whn they were young. It seemed to be the picture went popular and Camila soon had lots of little kids from a nearby school asking lots of questions about their relationship. Later Camila and Diego go on a call and she cuts  him off by refusing another date and leaving Diego to head back to Turin. Camila shows signs of regret while headed to her new job helping kids learn English.

Contrast and Contradiction
Camila keeps telling herself and keeps repeatedly mentioning how she wont fall for Diego again, Since he had left her for his soccer career in the past. Nevertheless, Camila lets Diego take her on a date and she again reminds herself again that she will not gain feelings for him and that she would be busy until it was time for him to leave Rosario. Now even though Camila stated that she wont fall for him again, after she cut Diego off on the phone she shows many signs of regret. This here shows that she definitely was falling for him again even after the numerous amount of times she told herself not to. Camila threw out her feelings for him to stay hidden from the public and away from popularity, also showing Camila has her priorities set straight and tries to keep them like that, no matter the cost.

1- In the novel Furia by yamile saled mendez, At home that evening, pablo shows up with his girlfriend, Marisol, and diego Before camila has a chance to say anything to Diego, roxana calls. Marisa, one of the players on their soccer team, quit after being abused by her boyfriend. Roxana is outraged and wants to find a way to help Marisa; Camila is also upset but recognizes that Marisa is in a tough situation. She has a daughter to take care of but doesn’t have any money. Things are complicated for her. Camila and Roxana resolve to find a replacement for Marisa and figure out a way to help their friend.

Contract and Contradction
2- Camila started the story of on how she liked this boy named diego but her parents wouldn't let her date any boy because of the mothers past when she was a kid. As she's in her room on the phone with diego and tells him "I dont want to be with you " she continues by adding that she dosent see him in her life that she dosen't like him. However she is really heart broken and telling him the lie that she dosent like him is the only way of making there parents happy. If she was to admit that she actually likes him her parents wouldn't be happy. The only person who knew Camilla played soccer was her best friend Roxanna so seeing Diego watching her play for the first time made her panic. But Diego soon reassured her that he was proud of her and proud that she is following her dreams. He then offers to take her on another date knowing that he will be going back to Italy the following day, so Camilla agreed so that she can spend time with him one last time. During this, they both realized how hard it was going to be for the both of them once Diego moves back, they also realized how much they loved and missed each other so then they decided that they would try the long distance thing and hope that their love doesnt fade away like last time. 


Whats happening in the scene of the book is that Camilla is having an intimate moment would Diego, and then they start kissing and during this Diego is telling Camilla everything hes been wanting to say to her like "I love you" and "I'll wait for you" but Camilla isn't sure what to do with the situation because she does love him back but she just doesn't want what they have to be too good to be true. The song "Dark Red" is about how the speaker is willing to be with his love and that he hopes that she doesn't want to give up on him because he loves her so much that he doesn't want her to leave him. How the scene of the book and the song connects is that since Diego is going back to Italy he is willing to wait for Camilla because she is the only girl hes ever really loved his whole life and being around her drives him crazy but he just hopes that Camilla is willing to be with him the same.

While the game seems to be going good and "la Furia" comes out of Camila, all until she hears Diego cheering for her from the crowd. This distracts her as she didn't want anybody else knowing that she played soccer and she ends up slipping into a small dip on the field that ends up causing her to sprain her ankle. After the game, Camila and Diego stay on the field and have a small talk. Even after Camila had cut him off over the phone, she accepted one last date before Diego leaves to Turin at the end of the day. Diego takes the two of them to a romantic spot where they chat again. They shared a kiss with Camila being cautious as they were out in public. After while, rain settles in and gets Camila and Diego in the car when Pablo texts Diego on the whereabouts of Camila. Right then, they part ways and Camila heads home.

The scene I chose is when Camila had won one of the first games described to us. Camila and the team are working their way through the game with there being a lot happening all in one moment as described by Camila. Her and the team are running around the field, with the other team attempting to block or take the ball to get a score for their own. The song is simply about making money and being successful, then partying because of it. It is a very upbeat song in some of the main parts and the pace is what I think makes it match with this scene. In the novel Furia, by Yamile Saied Mendez, Camila has been spending time with Diego since they hardly see each other. He convinced her to let him teach her how to drive. They watched the sunset together by the river after that. Her parents had a feeling that she liked Diego, so now they both know that they're a thing. She called him because she felt that she would've regretted turning her back on him. But when she called they ended up having an argument. Camila expressed to him that she needed space from him and she wished him the best. She also started to do tutoring for the kids at her church. 

In this scene of the book, Camila and Diego spent quality time together. They walked to the river while the sun set and they shared a torta de asada. They danced to a song of cumbias, as he sang softly in her ear. There was a street vender nearby that was selling roses. Diego bought all of them for Camila. While they were there they had a romantic/intimate time with each other.

The song I chose is called Si Es Posible and its a love song. The song connects to the scene that I chose because Camila and Diego had a romantic time together and this song is dedicated to a girl.

And Camilla expected her mother to go bonkers over finding out that she has been playing soccer this whole time but she was actually understanding and caring and acting like the mother Camilla had always wanted her to be. After then Camilla takes her to get help on her leg and has even agreed to fill out a form for Camilla that allows her to go on and play for a huge league, her mother had even met Camilla's team and her coach and approves. Also, before Diego left to Italy he got Camilla a new phone so that they can be able to communicate better and face time each other all the time, which is going great because they both are always being consistent with other and checking up on each other so Camilla's life seems to be going great so far. That is until she founds out that her father is having an affair and her older brother, Pablo, is going to be dad which Camilla's father does not approve of, because he said some things that were unforgiving and regretful. 

The quote that I chose was on page 196, "The girl Diego said he loved was the strong one, the winning Camilla, the one with a future she was forging for herself. The one who was still fighting. If he rescued me, if i quit for him, I wouldn't be the girl he loved. I wouldn't be myself." Why I chose this line is because I just loved the fact that Camilla chose to have some respect over herself knowing how much so many girls fell for Diego and wouldve done anything to get the chance to be with him, and now that Camilla does have him, she knows that shouldnt risk it all with him because it would be better for her and her future and for them and their future together. 

I think this book is underrated because it has all the qualities of a good book that everyone loves to read; romance and teen drama, and even some real issues that most family go through that is being normalized that needs to be talked about more. The woman was said to not be much older than Camila and the dad seemed really happy with her. Camila had then headed to work at El Buen Pastor in which she had recommended someone named Karen a book, met up with a few children, and finally got to see Diego. Diego had brought few presents for the children all consisting of soccer and school supplies.  Diego admits that he "couldn't: leave without saying goodbye to Camila. Diego had then given Camila a phone and new cleats for soccer. When Camila got home she finally revealed her injury from her last scrimmage and admit that she has been playing soccer for a year to her mom. The mom then stated that seeing Camila when she was younger trying to play soccer had made her cry because when she did that, her dad stopped her every time. So it had just reminded her of how she had begun to act like her dad. After their talk, Diego texted Camila on the new phone he gave her and they just talked about each other and soccer. The next day, Camila's brother and her dad were arguing about Diego when Camila had come in and couldn't bring herself to say how he dad was cheating on her mom, but her dad knew what she was going to say. Camila then argues with the mom as her mom though she would be pregnant since Camila was with Diego so often. Camila ended up just waiting until the next day so she can visit the doctor after the argument. Camila had then simply went through a series f checkups for her injuries and she was able to attend her scrimmage before the Sudamericano tournament. Camila and her Coach just talk for a while about the upcoming game after a few of Camila's scrimmages. Camila had headed to see Roxana when news finally broke out of a close friend to Roxana, Eda, that her body was found. The streets were aligned with families grieving over Eda's death together and thats just about how they spent the entire day, grieving.

The quote that I chose was actually on the first page of the book in big, bold letters, "Lies have short legs". This quote stuck with me mostly because of how it is also the first sentence of the book so with it being a saying, I had remembered it all throughout the book. I'd say it relates to me because of how it correlates with how I learned that lies ca't get you far in the long run. This is also the reason that I like it so much, because of how I learned something very important that I refused to learn before.

I say that this novel is underrated because of how it includes a lot of dramatic but interesting moments, also tied in with some more intense moments when you are almost fearing what could happen next. What we had read last friday, or what I had read last friday, is that the main character Camilla, got back together with diego and is now struggling to seem to tell her parents about it. She got a form that her parents had to sign and her mom wasn't exactly at all happy about it and was just filled with confusion and anger when she had learned about, until then she forgave camilla and signed the paper.

One of my favorite lines in the story was, "I only ever want you Camilla, always you," and this really makes me like it so much is because I know what it feels like to always keep someone you had loved for all your life, and you just never wanted to let go of the person, which really relates to me in my life since I cannot let go of one person in my life and that person is really important to me, and this quote is relatable to what had happened in the past

This book is underrated because in the novel, the story has a good plot where the characters are always with each other and its an amazing thing to really see them.
