They are also running out of water and the water they do have left is not really refreshing but it's better than no liquids/water. The only problem was that this would require the men to give Mendez money and there's no guarantee that Mendez will actually return for the men or that he'll leave behind for his own survival. The men struggle to keep themselves together while waiting for Mendez's return. The walkers are singing in order to save themselves from ending up in a situation that will ruin their lives. After the Yuma 14 bodies are completely finished being examined they are going to get shipped back to Veracruz which costs around a thousand dollars pero body. His lawyer is trying to come up with a case that will move the blame to the Border Patrol agents and try to make it seem like they were the ones who intentionally causes the death of some of the walkers. Mendez is still claiming that he was only trying to help the walkers when he took their money as an attempt to get more supplies and search for help. Survivors were still sharing information and talking about their experiences which led to the capture of some members of the Cercas gang but El Negro was able to escape getting caught. The author was warned by police officers that the publishing of this story could cause him to receive death threats or he could even end up getting killed for sharing information about coyotes. The author knew the risks of sharing his story but he continued to share it because he knew it was important and it should be shared. The author shares details about how immigration has changed and morphed into different issues. For example, more women are trying to come into the U.S. with their children and they seem to be easy targets for the coyotes since they can use their children as a way to threaten women to pay off their debt. "Who would Jesus deport?". Most people think that Jesus would be willing to accept all immigrants to grant them a better life and some think that Jesus would make them go back home or turn them in. A child that was potentially an immigrant tells the story of why their family chose to leave Mexico to come to the U.S. and it was because of a violent event that happened right in front of them in Mexico. The author is talking about how illegal immigration isn't necessarily a huge crime that should be punished with deportation because in reality it's equivalent to getting a ticket on the freeway. The author later on talks about how women are getting trafficked because their identities are being taken from them and they're forced to work.
