   Another factor that prevents long stays is because Singapore's hotel rates is one of the most expensive in the world. As such , a long stay would be financially unfeasible. Firstly, is about the duration of stay that tourists visit Singapore for a holiday in which tourists are given 30 days social visit visa irrespective to the number of days they intend to stay endorsed by the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority of Singapore. Since this is a multiple entry visa which provides tourists with the convenience and accessibility to enter and exit Singapore within 30 days time frame using the same visa and can be obtained again and multiple times once you have completed the 30 days period. 

Moreover, the majority of tourists do not require a visa to visit Singapore during their stay. But then, in some cases, it is compulsory for them to obtain a visa application beforehand and needs to be approved by the local authorities for clearance and approval to enter the country. To further elaborate on this point, almost 80% of citizens of the world's countries are able to travel to Singapore for a period of 30 days or 90 days without a visa, depending on their nationality.  

However, Singapore has shortened from 90 or 30 days to just 3 days due to the average length of stay (ALOS) for tourists as it has been deteriorated rapidly since its peak of 4. 4 days in 2014 which cause Singapore hoteliers have lesser faith to hope for with the influx of tourists. According to a report by UOB Kay Hian, the overall ALOS for all tourists is shrinking at 6.7%. It was mainly due to the declining ALOS of Chinese tourists, which declined to 24% to around 3 days resulting in the loss in profits. 

Multiple pieces of evidence can be found in Singapore Business Review which states that "this might well be explained by the increased in Chinese land travel to Singapore from Malaysia, propelling overall Chinese arrival growth," Chang noted. The brokerage firm pointed out that the proportion of Chinese land travel to Singapore has increased from a low of 15.7% in 2014 to a year-to-date high of 25.2% in 7M16. In addition, the majority of Chinese tourists have tighter budget constraints. Chinese per capita expenditure on hotels fell by 5% YoY to $211 in 1Q16. This is 40% lower compared to the peak of $352 in 2014. The report said this could help explain the increase in cross-border travels, with neighbouring countries such as Johor Bahru are likely engaged with tour groups who have more restricted spending plans. "Our channel checks suggest these visitors came in tour groups are usually budget-conscious towards their accommodation. Singapore hospitality REITs also largely do not accommodate to such tour groups as they operate in the mid- and upper-tier segments," UOB said. 

On the other hand, what I have found on the Internet is the time duration that tourists usually stay on a business trip. The duration of your business trip depends on your country's visa relationship with Singapore such that only top-tier countries can enjoy the maximum duration for their business visit, up to 90 days. Alternatively, a multiple entry business visas require making breaks during their 9-week stay. 

However, if you are eligible for entry, you will receive a Visit Pass which will indicate the period of stay granted but while in Singapore, with a visit pass, you are not permitted to engage in any business, professional or paid employment activities within the country.

There is so much in Singapore that everyone can afford, especially food, and eventhough many of Singapore's attractions are expensive and they're not that much ,however, they are attractive and exciting . So what the tourists loose on the swings, they gain on the roundabouts. These makes the tourist to have the urge to tour and know more about Singapore. It takes roughly around 1 day to enjoy 1 or 2 attractions in Singapore.

The reason  would be that the tourist who comes to Singapore has many other countries to visit in South  East Asia , some stated that there is so much that they can do within the 5 nights . While , some stated that if they would have stayed much shorter , it would be a rush for them to enjoy and visit most of the attraction sites in Singapore . Some also stated that if they would stay for a long time , they would get bored as some stated , not much things attracts their attention other than Singapore's rich culture , delicious food and many more . To sum up my answer , the tourist would stay in Singapore for at most 3 - 5 nights . You can visit Sentosa, Changi Chapel to learn about World War 2, restaurants near Singapore River to take dinner and see the Merlion, go to the famous chinese temple in Bugis, go to Little India and Arab for Indian and Malays architecture and culture repectively, walk around Orchard Road for shopping, etc. The one week time span really allows you to understand the culture of singapore better.
