This website generally described the idea that the Shag Harbour Incident of 1967 was all due to a UFO crash. Right off the bat a couple red flags I could see were red herring and proof by verbosity. Critically thinking, of course the people who “saw” orange lights, coming from the sky October 4, 1967, have the first thought to think of aliens. This is because people love mystery and the idea that there might be other “beings” out there other than us. These people assumed first that they were watching a tragic airplane crash, then came to the idea that it could not have been a airplane due to the fact that when it hit the water it began to float. Red Herring is a very possible red flag because realistically, the story of the Shag Harbour Incident had come from people's stories which could very well be exaggerated and may have tossed some false information into the story line. Next, Proof by Verbosity is the red flag that i believe is the best for this story. Proof of verbosity is the idea that someone came up with a good and long false story, so that it looks like they have enough information that it must be true. Anyone could have made up a perfect sounding story as to why it must have been a UFO that crashed into the water on October 4th.

The Ghost Theory has a very good idea of why people should believe it was aliens the night of October 4, 1967. Along with most stories on the Shag Harbour Incident, people still believe that the only answer is that aliens had lost control of their ship and “disappeared” like ghosts after the crash in the water. A couple red flags I could think of is confirmation bias and appeal to authority. Confirmation bias, being the idea that we only remember what we want about this story, and since we all love mystery and the idea that there is something or someone outside of planet earth, the only theory we like to egg on would be the UFO theory. Second, appeal to authority is a strong red flag because we like to follow the theories that are given to us. I think that the officers gave off the idea that it was a UFO because either there was no explanation for this incident or there is something the authorities were hiding from the world, such as the military doing something sneaky and it did not go well. Therefore, there are so many red flags because realistically there is no exact definition for the incident and there is always more information added or taken away from each story.

This video is a run-through of the events during the night of the Shag Harbour Incident. This is a good video talking about many valid facts and information which is attributed to the incident. However, some “facts” in this video are being presented as hard evidence when they are merely predictions. This video also did not explore the newer evidence that suggests the whole incident might have been something to do with the delivery of submarines from the UK to Canada. What this does is only provide the information on one side of the story. This makes the viewer believe in the UFO story because they aren’t shown evidence of another theory. This is an example of confirmation bias where the narrator of the video only gives one side’s information.

The channel that has made this video has over 1.7 million subscribers. So, this channel understands that it must show al sides of the story or they will be called out for it. So, information wise this is a good video. Where it is not a good source is the credibility. Because of all the views and how professional the video is, many people would assume the speaker is very credible and has done lots of research on the topic. This is clearly a red flag of appeal to authority. Due to the size of the channel, the professional video and even the voice of the speaker make everything he says more convincing.

This video does not have anyone speaking about the incident. Rather it shows the museum that was created in honor of the Shag Harbour UFO Incident. This museum again is an example of confirmation bias. Obviously for a museum they want to focus on a significant topic. However, they show predictions and eye witness claims as facts. This can be misleading, especially to those who are visiting and don't know too much about the details of the Shag Harbour Incident.

This website covers the story of retired Lieutenant Colonel Richard French, who is a known UFO debunker. He had made claims that he witnessed the events of shag harbour, and that the government had covered up the whole ordeal. The past of Richard French is unknown, people claim that the information leading to who he is or was is secret and cannot be obtained. Anytime his credibility is challenged there is huge backlash. The red flag to this article would be Red herring, people are so focused on the shag harbour incident being true that they don’t stop and question the legitimacy of the source of information. Another problem with Richard Frenches story is that the timelines and locations don’t match up with articles posted by Huffington Post. eo.com":{"netpK

This picture shows a sign that points to the location of the supposed Shag Harbour UFO incident. Since there is very blurred evidence of any truth to the whole incident the sign is merely for tourists to get drawn into. The UFO spotting put shag harbour on the map, before that it was just a small fishing community. The intention of the sign is not to misinform the public but due to the broadness of the information it can be easy for anyone to assume there was a UFO sighting. The Shag harbour incident is referred to as the second Roswell incident, and many people come to see the sight and visit the museum.

This is the article published by the Halifax Chronicle-Herald the day after the Incident. the headline is a quote from the head of the RCAF at the time on his opinion of the Incident, usually their office received numerous UFO sightings but this was one that he felt could have some concrete evidence about extraterrestrials. Just in the headline it is easy to see Red Flags that the Chronicle-Herald is using to attract uneducated readers, Red herring and Confirmation bias. The quote is basically irrelevant in terms of news or fact, it is just something some guy said, therefore it uses that irrelevant information to distract without using any facts to support an actual theory, a Red Herring. Confirmation bias is also seen here, everyone wants to hear news about extraterrestrial sightings so as a selling point the newspaper used a small quote from a notable and important source to basically confirm that there was a UFO sighting that night in Shag Harbour.

This is a sign erected after the incident. It shows a boy watching a UFO falling into the water , this is allegedly a real depiction because there was actually a boy who witnessed a black object falling into the water that night in 1967. This is a case of appeal to authority as we have the government of Shag Harbour, as well as civilians, putting up these signs to try and make the clouded incident more real.
