Notes: The media in the movie plays a mayor role in the development of the issue, the media tend to downplay very badly the issue minimizing the importance of it. A key example is how they didn't had a proper record case of Ger. Some key themes that they talk about are:

Crime

Kidnapping

Insecurity in Mexico

Julia had to search by her own with the aid of an assisted journalist who had experience in those cases (abril). We can see how the media doesn't inform properly, it isn't reliable enough for the citizens so they need to search for answers by their own.

Scene 1: THE MEDIA

Here we can see how even with videos in social media and with the major power that the internet is the country is still unable to understand what happened or where she is. The media is everywhere, we have videos, blogs, articles and still it's not reliable enough or it's not enough for the case being solved. The influence in the media alters the course of the story by making and forcing Julia to dive deeper by herself in the case of her own daughter which allegedly was taken by the goverment.

Here we can see the civic participation of Mexicans at its finest. We see how the own people form groups in order to combat the insecurity, the kidnapping, and many more problems Mexico suffers from. The civic participation of Las Madres Buscadoras deeply influence in the track of the story as they lead and aid the case that Julia had to solve of her daughter. The union of las madres buscadoras is a clear example of how the people if working together can do many things that the government doesn't. They are a testimony, a emotional backup for Julia, making her understand that she's not alone in this one, carrying her throughout her whole journey of grieve and loss of her dearest daughter Ger.

The state of Mexico plays a mayor influential role in the development of the movie. Enforcing the feminist to shut down their voices, to surrender. Here we can observe how the military forces sent by the government directly attack the feminists, leaving few to none leftovers of hope to find the ones who disappeared. Here we can see how the government actually has a major power, if they can shut down a whole protest/movement wouldn't they be able to search and find about all the missing Mexicans that disappear every single day? The government influences the story in a derogatory way as they make the finding of Ger even more challenging and difficult for Julia.

Personally I think the most important role was the people. Not only they were the ones actively fighting the issue and addressing it as much as they can but also serve as a huge emotional relief to Julia as she can now feel a sense of community and that she's not alone in this type of situation many Mexicans have to endure and suffer every day. The people was the role with most influence as it also triggered the other 2 roles because of its presence, the Mexicans, the people, they were the ones who were asking for questions, wanting more, relentlessly searching. That's why I think it was the most influential role.

Questions prepared and asked for the speaker:

"¿Qué le diría a otras mujeres que quieren iniciar en ser madres buscadoras?"

(because of time constrains everyone only could ask one question but here's another question WHICH IS NOT MINE)

"¿Qué falta en Mexico, que se necesita para que esto no suceda?"

Personally I think the media can either be your best ally or the worst enemy, the media we consume worldwide is a key to unlock all the information that occurs in the planet that we live in. Thanks to the media we can have a major comprehension of what’s happening, it can help you in many ways if its used on your favor, in this case can make justice to be more known, it can spread the word for you so you and many more don’t have to protest, search, and demand every single day, but at the same time it can backstab you in the ways you expected the least, it can hide your information, it can lie to the whole world about what’s happening it can hinder the search for justice and it will make you protest, search, and demand so they address the cases correctly. We can testify that this is actually real as when we were in the conference and a student asked the speakers if they had ever been backstabbed or attacked by the media platforms in any way and the three speakers agreed without a single doubt. They explained to us that the media is constantly lying and always planning fishy stuff underwater down low. I think that civic participation (las madres buscadoras) is one of the most humane acts that have even been made, they not only help you to get your case solved but also aid you in your emotional duel you have with yourself as one of your loved ones disappeared, they can help you to cope with your loss and spark hope in your soul.

a) As seen in the Wealth and Poverty module we know that wealth is not only about money. Wealth can mean many things such as having a loving family, emotional fulfillment, not everything's money. In Lety Hildalgo's story we can see how she lacks of wealth, and by that I don't mean anything related with their economic situation, I mean that she's not emotionally fulfilled, they took a piece of his soul and she's trying to get it back.

b) Inequality directly affects the crisis on forced disappearance as inequality acts upon in the attack of marginalized groups making them an easy target and then when serving justice the legal actions are not taken correctly or property. I personally think that inequality serves as a catalyst to the forced disappearance crisis.

c) I think that if you start analyzing, being more empathetic of your environment, and acknowledging how wealth is a concept that varies on each citizen you will be a better citizen

d) Inequality was created in order to segregate others. The origin in inequality lies directly on the mindset that just because people are different than others they are better/worse than another human being, (money, opportunities, appearance, for example.)

A) Wealth is not solely based on income, it can also mean wealth in love, in friendships and in your life in general.l With Lety Hidalgo it is noticeable that she is in lack of wealth and that can sometimes mean less opportunities in every way.

B) Inequality does affect the case of forced dissapearances because the government knows where to hit to make it seem the "softest hit" so that they can go by "unnoticed"

C) Understanding wealth and poverty as a citizen is important, and it betters my pov of everything now, and i see things as the full picture, and not what society has been saying, and then that makes an impact on your decisions from there on out.

D) Inequality comes from income, and many other ways. We as people tend to think less of the people that are in the lower side of the scale, those who truly possess the abilities to excell in what they do, but are not able to because of inequality is truly heartbreaking for me (rosa pastel example you gave us in class)

Questions for the speaker:

"Cómo ha sido su experiencia con los medios de comunicación durante su búsqueda?"

"Cual cree que es el papel de la memoria y el testimonio en la búsqueda de la justicia?"

Honestly the media can either be really good or really bad for your case. The media tends to tailor information or over exaggerate it for the means of sensationalism that can even include offensive titles, headlines, etc. For example, the speakers all confirmed to have been victims of the media muting or distorting information for them, and they answered right away. I think public conscience that someone is actually living that and that it's not just a story to get views can make us a better country. As citizens participating, I think we should all call out media whenever they do that. If we all speak up together, we can erradicate this from existence. This would be a change for the better.

The most important role certainly in my opinion was the people. The state or the media might or might not help us, and most often than not they twist things so that you're the one with the issue all alone. But if the people empathize and understand that people go through that, we can all unite for a good cause and protest, and it would have a lot of weight to the situation. Masses of people who understand you and are fighting for the same reason is power. Every voice is power, but all voices united can be lethal. (in a good way ok)

Wealth and Poverty:

A) Lety Hidalgo’s story shows how poverty makes it harder for families to get justice. When her son disappeared, she didn’t have the money, power, or support that wealthier people might have. Many poor families go through the same thing and are often ignored by the authorities.

B) Inequality affects this crisis a lot. People in poor areas are more exposed to danger and often don’t get protection from the government. They also have fewer resources to search for their loved ones or to defend their rights. This makes the problem worse for those who already struggle the most.

C) To be a better citizen, it’s important to understand where poverty comes from and how it affects people’s lives. Listening to others, staying informed, and being respectful toward everyone helps build a fairer society. Taking small actions, like helping or speaking up, also makes a difference.

D) Inequality comes from history, when certain groups had more power, land, or money and others were left out. Over time, this created unfair systems that still exist today. These systems make it harder for some people to get ahead, no matter how hard they work.

Questions for the speaker:

"¿Cuál es tu perspectiva sobre los avances y desafíos actuales en el sistema educativo del estado?"

"¿Qué estrategias específicas se están implementando para garantizar que el estado cumpla con lo prometido y ayude a facilitar la búsqueda de los desaparecidos?"

Media can be a big help or a huge obstacle when it comes to finding justice, especially in cases like the one Leticia Hidalgo shared about her son Roy, who was forcibly disappeared in 2011. In the video, Leticia talks about how at first, the media didn’t really talk much about disappearances. Families like hers felt invisible. But over time, they learned to use media to their advantage to share stories, put pressure on the government, and remind the public that these people are still missing. When media covers these stories with care and truth, it gives families like Leticia’s a voice. It helps more people understand what’s really happening and why it matters. But sometimes, media can mess things up, like when they only report part of the story or make it sound like the missing person “got involved with the wrong people.” That kind of reporting hurts the families and spreads harmful ideas. Leticia also shows how civic participation builds resilience. She didn’t just wait for answers, she organized, protested, and even searched with her own hands. That’s powerful. Civic action isn’t always big or dramatic, it can be showing up, speaking out, or even just listening and learning. All of that helps keep the fight going.

For me, the most influential role was played by the people. While institutions like the government or media have the power to inform or regulate, it's ultimately the collective voice of the people that drives real change. They were not only present, but persistent speaking out, demanding answers, and standing beside Julia in solidarity. Their actions showed that when individuals come together, they create a force that can challenge systems, bring visibility to injustice, and offer emotional strength to those who feel unheard. It’s that shared commitment and unity that truly makes a difference.
