Mainly the book discusses their everyday lives but explain why the boys are scared of the war.
Teaching Idea: I would use this particular book show the difference between tone in the book. The tone in this book is quite negative, and I would ask my students to point out words in the text that make them decide what kind of tone the book has in comparison to another book like, The Magic Plum Tree, I think this skill is important to have when reading any piece of literature and I would want my students to think critically on their view versus the books view, I would use this as a way to teach my student metacognition. I would want them to think about what they are thinking as they read the book, what reactions did they have to some of the language that is used.

I would also help my students by guiding them in some parts of the reading so they begin to read and challenge the author by asking questions.
