His father abandoned his family and died later. Poe's mother died two years after he was born. He and his siblings were adopted into the Allan family, hence how he got the last name Allan. Him and his new father had a rough history but he was very close to his new mother. He went to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point but dropped out very quickly. This strained his relationship with his father. They're relationship wasn't as odd as some may think. They were very happy and felt like siblings. However, their happiness didn't last long. Her health got worse and worse over the years. In 1847, Virginia died of tuberculosis at the age of 24. A sickness that killed many of Poe's loved ones. Some say that he died with her. His wife's death left him unable to write for months.

Some say he had a brain tumor, others say it was a suicide.
