I think that Esperanza's mom said Papa's heart would follow them wherever they go purely out of hope that he would. Like when they found those roses at that statue. "'Yes, those are your Papa's roses,' said Miguel, smiling at her,". That detail from the text shows that Papa's heart might actually be there with them. Also, in the book, it says this: "Mama looked at Esperanza. 'Didn't I tell you that Papa's heart would find us wherever we go?'". That single sentence tells us that Mama actually had gathered all her hope when she had went to America that Papa's heart would find them

Marta was yelling at the camp because the cotton picking job that Marta's family doesn't give much pay this is because Isabel said that the job only get 5 cents a pound and they want it to be 10 cents or more.

Esperanza's Mom is dying because of valley fever which I think is a big event in the story because it can affect the way Everyone in the story lives such as Esperanza and Isabel.For instance, both characters worry about her.Also Esperanza can become pessimistic because not only her father dies her mother dies too. Her mother isn't dead but if it happens I assume that Esperanza may lose all of her hope which can lead the story to a downfall.

I think that Esperanza is losing hope that her family will ever be together as it once was again. Mainly this is because her Mama has caught the disease Valley Fever after the big dust storm that passed their house in California. The text says: "Her voice strangled with fear. All she could do is whisper the doctor's uncertain words, 'If she survives'. It also says in the text in her thoughts is: "She wanted to tell the doctor that she could not lose Mama too. That she had already lost Papa and Abuelita was too far away". These details from the text proved my opinion.

Esperanza's Mom getting sick worries the most important character’s (Esperanza, Isabel). This causes an Event in the story that almost ends everyone. Their is a problem which contributes's to the problem about the Mom such as the dad being dead. To prove this during the part that we read in school Esperanza felt nearly dead when her Mom was diagnosed with Valley Fever. This doesn't only cause Esperanza to worry but also Isabel. I think this because Isabel looked at Esperanza like they were doomed. Also the text shows Isabel also being frightened by the Fever.

I think that the hardest part of moving to a new country is finding new jobs. This affects Esperanza as well as her family and friends. I know this because in the book it mentions that they're struggling to find jobs that aren't just farm work. Also because that the book mentions that Esperanza and her Mama are finding hard to transfer so quickly from rich and happy to poor and sad.

Esperanza and Marta along with Isabel want to work at the railroads to help their family. Their are many families coming in from Mexico. Everyone came for a job but they have a heck of a time searching for one. They will pick the easy jobs instead of the ones that will give you a worth of 1.5 million every 5 months. I think this is why because, here in the United States of America there are many living. This makes finding space for a job and finding home harder for people who are migrating.

I also think that when Pam Munoz Ryan wrote about his grandma it could mean a symbol in the past tense . This is like Kek when he used to live in Africa bu then there was war and his father had died and also Esperanza's Dad. For me the subject is the doll, it gave Isabel hope like how Aitan had showed at the time when there were laws and strikers . also the fact the the Grandma has been pointed out in the Authors note which was Esperanza. In his case I think that This story is a meaning for hope because the characters need all of the hope needed. In my opinion Esperanza is desperate.

I think that the topic of hope is mentioned a lot throughout the story because Esperanza means hope. This makes the title Hope Rising, this makes me think that the whole story revolves around hope rising and falling. For example, at the beginning of the book Esperanza's Papa gets killed or murdered, and they have to escape Mexico into southern California. So hope starts falling. Then later in the story Abuelita comes back to them in America. So hope starts rising again

Considering the past events that had happened in Hoot, I'm thinking that Roy is probably happy that he busted Matherson's nose because he got suspended from the bus because he doesn't have to get pounded into the window by Matherson anymore. But on the contrary when Matherson smushed him into said window he saw a running boy with no shoes, no backpack, and no books. And just to add more to it, he was running away from the school bus, not toward it. This event might present a debatable topic on this book

Roy is curious about finding the no-shoes boy. We might not have a theme to find out but i think that Roy is a bold adventurer. I think this because Roy has been setting out to find the boy since the first scene of the story. a theme i found was to never give up and nice does good. To support my theme of to never give up is when Roy is searching for the kid he keeps on getting closer with the evidence needed from the girl he had met in the office and the fact that he got hit in the head with a golf ball and is still trying. To support my theme of that nice always does good is when the officer picks up Roy and Roy is nice to him and then is carried home.

I think that Mullet Fingers might be one of the main characters in Hoot because it was one of the first events happening in the story when Roy saw Mullet running along the sidewalk. Also because there were many more events in the story including Mullet Fingers. For example, the event in the story when there were those cottontail mocassins at the dog place. You know, like the place where that Curly guy went to get those Rottweilers. Another event that had happened including Mullet is when Roy was riding his bike on that rainy day, then the cops catch him, since he was near the Mother Paula's site, and then let him go. After that his bike gets stolen by Beatrice when he was trying to deliver shoes to Mullet Fingers on that same day.

Beatrice also might be a main character along with Roy and Mullet, because she was also included in one of the first events in the story. And she also turned out to be Mullet's sister, and she was protecting Mullet from people who wanted to harm him. Like their parents if they find out that he isn't at boarding school in Virginia, and that he had hitchhiked from there to Florida, where he is now with Roy and Beatrice. I guess that Mullet was basically the focus of this jot too, so I'm going to try and put more on Beatrice here too. Another reason I have for Beatrice being one of the main characters is that when Dana Matherson, another one of the main characters (more on this later), was choking Roy on the bus again. Beatrice came along and gave him a taste of his own medicine. But to be honest, the book actually didn't tell us what exactly she did, but the only thing it did tell us was that Dana's face was smushed against the window, and that Beatrice was sitting next to him. Dana also might be one of the main characters because it actually was the first event in the story when he was choking Roy and Roy broke his nose in return. Also that Dana... Actually, change of plans, Dana isn't one of the main characters in the book, sorry!

Mullet Fingers is important to the story like Isabel in Esperanza Rising because they are both beside the main character in a sequence of events such as when the dogs are with them and mullet Fingers supports Roy and Isabel supports Esperanza. In Esperanza Rising Isabel is the comforter for Esperanza not only when Miguel leaves but when Mamma gets sick and before when Esperanza learns how to sweep. In the text Isabel rubs Esperanza's back and not only does Miguel teaches Esperanza how to sweep but also Isabel who also motivates her. In hoot not only is Mullet fingers important but I think also Dana and Beatrice. Dana helps Roy motivate himself and be stronger by Dana beating him up. Such as in the text when Dana chokes Roy and he is so mad that he punches her in the Bridge of the nose. And Beatrice helps Roy find more about the no-shoes kid. Such as when Beatrice tells him to mind his own business and tells him a little fact. And in Esperanza rising there are more supportive characters than in Hoot such as Miguel, Isabel, Mamma, And Isabel's dad and Mom-(Esperanza's Uncle and Aunt). then when in Hoot there a- Mr. Ebnhart and Ms.Ebnhart along with Dana,Beatrice, Mullet Fingers and The cop. This shows how both characters are similar and different because each person handles their things differently.The difference is that both characters have separate feelings and different traits that help them live throughout the book.
