by Charles Wheelan
"If it isn't already, this should be on the reading list of every undergraduate at University. Heck, it should be on EVERYONES' reading list! It starts with an introduction to the basics and progresses into more advanced material. All along the way, he explains all of the concepts extremely well and uses examples to get the point across. It's a shame a lot of his examples are Americanized, but you still get the point he's trying to make.
... this is approachable for anybody with an interest in statistics and its usefulness in everyday life.
Just to conclude, it's a shame that more statistics book aren't like this. He makes a terrifying subject A LOT more approachable and something (SHOCK!) that we can find fun in! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone."

Even though I had a good knowledge of statistics before reading this book. it does shows you many subtle things in terms of data presentation for effect, the use of mean versus median for averages, the source of information, and dealing with correlations."

How Charts Lie - Getting Smarter about Visual Information

by Alberto Cairo
" .... offers a really modern take on "How to lie with statistics" - you should read that first before you get this one. It is well presented and easy to follow. Has really good analysis and presents the problems 'about charts' really well with very up to date and relevant pointers"
" .... takes you through different scenarios and how, many times, inaccurate or badly design data visualisations can mislead and tell the complete wrong story. Any organisation or journalist should and MUST read this book before producing any type of graphs."
"The important, core argument is that charts need to be read, rather than just seen, and the reader needs to learn the language and vocabulary of charts. He describes this over six themed chapters and 250 pages with plenty of good illustrations."

by Grady Klein
"This is a very rigorous approach to the foundational concepts of statistics. You are not going to learn a lot about specific hypothesis testing but it lays the groundwork perfectly for sampling, the central limit theorem and most importantly confidence intervals which are often poorly covered in even graduate level statistics courses for biological/medical and social sciences."
