I have to do something. I’ve never been in a lot of situations like that and was determined to win. We had 30 seconds and we had to score 5 points to at least tie. They missed both. And my team got the rebound. You can hear the other team’s bench anger after the missed free throws. I can hear them saying no and the bench punching their chairs when they missed. I sprinted to the other end of the court to catch the ball and as soon as the soft leather of the ball hit my hands I shot it and we were only down by 3 with 20 seconds left so we had to foul and luckily he missed both foul shots again. We were discussing and drawing up a play to get a 3. Swish and I started jumping up and down with excitement on my face and when I made the shot it felt like a weight had been just lifted off of me. I was so happy as people congratulated me on the shot and game. And I had to play for varsity right after. This moment meant a lot to me because I was nervous and had multiple people tell me I wasn’t good enough and that I shouldn’t have made varsity and JV so I had to prove them wrong putting more pressure on myself.
